General MLS Discussion

I missed this until today, and didn’t turn it up here on a search but: Cristian Pavon was charged with rape in Argentina (ESPN)

Well that's interesting. What a dumb way to ruin a career if it's true. He is scheduled for the testimony today, so the case isn't closed yet and there isn't much detail in this article so I don't think it makes sense to judge the situation until more is brought to light

Yeah, it's been on r/MLS. There's a lot of stuff that's on there that doesn't get on this board. He's not coming back to MLS with LA Galaxy, certainly.

I quit Twitter awhile back to stay out of the fray. I don’t think I could handle a sub Reddit

For what it's worth I've found reddit to be far more productive than Twitter. Granted, I mostly only follow a sub related to my workplace so it tends to involve somewhat mature discourse which almost certainly doesnt hold true with a sports related sub.

everyone hates on nycfc, if nycfc has anything good or positive it doesnt really get commented on only by other nycfc fans. but its good to get scoops on league wide stuff and other teams signings.

EDIT: i notice at least on reddit- philly, toronto, seattle fans really really dislike or hate nycfc

I feel like with anything that has to do with the team good or bad, any and all comments from fans not for our team are about playing in Yankee Stadium/ on a baseball field and how that shouldn't be allowed. At first it was frustrating, now its like get some new material please, lol.

like i mention above, seattle, philly and toronto fans all go on big rants ( sometimes curse filled) about the stadium anytime we move our games or we play their team at yankee stadium.

philly i guess i "get it" as they never have beaten us playing in yankee stadium.

Must be nice having owners that care and make the team their primary focus (Inter Miami).

MLS really botched New York market.

did i miss something ? who did they sign? or is this because beckham wants to bring marcelo?

MLS really botched New York market.
Selling the MetroStars to Red Bull arguably made sense at the time.
Awarding the second NYC franchise to CFG probably made sense if you ignored the RB experience, and to be fair I've never seen anyone point to a better, realistic interested prospect.
But having neither team be the first priority of its owner, and both run by foreign soccer conglomerates, has been a total screw up.

I think I need to post some variant of this post at least once a year or I explode.

i dont think there is a domestic group interested in actually working to make a team work here ( stadium issues, and market is already crowded with other sports, not much visibility). if there were, CFG doesnt happen since MLS wanted a second team in the area badly.

Yeah. We need an Arthur Blank or Steve Cohen but there isn’t one for NYC soccer.

The big problem is the economics of NYC. The league isn't high profile enough to get a mega local tv, radio and local sponsorship deals to make up for the pitfalls of NYC. Orlando bought in and built a stadium for what wouldn't even be enough to cover land acquisition in NYC. For us to build what Orlando built would probably clear $500m on stadium alone, they spent like $150m I believe.

NYC wasn't going to get an MLS investor any better than City group.

when you sell a lot of jerseys.. it gives you the power to make more dramatic design choices with adidas..

this is what i call a 2ndary jersey!

I kind of like. The swirly thing is kinda weird but it all works in it’s own way. Like the colors a lot. And the collar is normal. I can’t get over how stupid the collar on our new kit is...
I looked over the history of NYCFC kits and gotta say the best jersey was the parley in 2019. We need a new design team.

jersey design is all adidas, but teams can make design proposals (words only) to adidas which are accepted or not. This is how philly got their fan inspired jersey. Seattle is a top jersey seller so their ability to influence the final product is probably much greater than ours. Adidas knows that if they make it, it will likely sell. Unlike ours, which will just sit there til it's 75% off 3 years later and still hoping to sell.

As an old, I find it interesting how we've come full circle on web design. From Mostly text on a white background to over-designed with large pictures on dark backgrounds, back to mostly text on a white background.

Fortunately, <blink> doesn't seem to have made a comeback.
