If there are 10k people in here at 7:01, I'd be shocked

Shout out to the ~500 fans that turned out tonight.

18,000+?

They're lying to us and they think we're stupid enough to believe it...
It’s tickets sold, not turns of the turnstile.

exactly - what a dumb way to measure "attendance"
I can see how that would make sense, but I'm OK with measuring tickets sold. Let's say your stadium holds 30,000. If you sell 27,000 tickets that means a ton of folks want to see your event, to the point where they'll plunk down money on it and intend to go. But then if a hurricane rolls through (potentially next weekend, for example) and only 12,000 show up while that's a bummer on the day your team still has the interest and fan base, although hot dog sales may suffer. That's why I think tickets sold is totally valid. On the other hand, if it's nearing the end of the baseball season, say, and only 5,000 people are showing up in your 46,000 seat stadium because your club's 55 1/2 games out (hello Baltimore!), well sure, that's a problem, so attendance is also valid. Not going to get too many clubs announcing that number though, but I guess I'm reasonably OK with that more or less.
