Never easy playing this team but hopefully we'll be close to full strength on Saturday.
Villa, Herrera, Wallace and Ring possibly all available and our new RB as well.

Kickoff at 5:30 on YES, WFAN (Online) and WQBU

Early Pre-Match Report...

NYCFC Disciplinary: None. And no players are one yellow card away from accumulation suspension.
NYCFC Injury Report: Matarrita, Chanot, White, and Lopez are still out. Villa cleared his medical tests and his status will be determined based on his ability in training. Ring also suffered a toe injury during the international break and he is also a question mark.

Portland Disciplinary: None.
Portland Injury Report: Adi, Ridgewell, and Gleeson are all out for this match. (Source: https://articles.oregonlive.com/timbers/index.ssf/2017/09/portland_timbers_players_liam_2.amp). Moreover, per MLSsoccer.com Myers and Arokoyo are also out based on long term injuries.

NYCFC's new signee Andraz Struna may be available on Saturday pending the status of his P1 visa. If acquired, he would could fill in in the starting 11 at RB or more likely be a bench option depending on his time spent with the club in training.

We saw James Sands make his first appearance to the NYCFC 18 (err, 17) on Wednesday. With players coming back, does his see the 18 again on Saturday?

Aside from Villa and Ring who are unknowns, Herrera and Wallace will come back into the lineup. Wallace served his yellow card accumulation suspension during Wednesday's 1-0 win vs. SKC.

Portland currently sit in 2nd in the West with 41 points over 28 games, 1.46 PPG. Their road record is 3-7-4 (W-L-T). NYCFC lost the initial meeting at Yankee Stadium in 2015, 1-0. Then went on the road and gained a victory over a 2-1 featuring a masterclass ball from RJ to Villa and astute defending by Jason Hernandez.

FiveThirtyEight puts a NYCFC win at 54%, Portland win at 24%, and a 22% of a draw.

Saturday Night
Mostly clear, with a low around 54.

Wallace-Villa-Lewis
Maxi
Herrera-Ring
Sweat-Callens-Brillant-Andraz
Johnson

Bench: Johansen, Harrison, Allen, Shelton, Pirlo, McNamara

Wallace - Okoli - Lewis/Harrison
Herrera - Maxi - Ring
Sweat - Callens - Brillant - RJ
Sean John

I don't think Villa is going to play unless he is fully fit, they won't rush him at this point. PV is on record saying he wants to watch Harrison's minutes, and seeing as he played 90 last night, i'm expecting him to split the 90' with Lewis. I'm not sure if the newb has been training with the team prior to yesterday, so even if he gets his visa, he probably watches RJ and understands why he got an offer from us.

I thought Harrison looked refreshed last night, even before the goal.

Still doesn't hurt to rotate guys. If we slip to third, we will potentially play October 15*, 22, 25/26, 30, November 5*. (*Road games).

Jack has played a ton of minutes this year (2240), more than anyone but Callens and Sean Johnson. Villa, Ring, and Maxi all got some time off as a result of minor injuries and card suspensions, Harrison hasn't. I wouldn't mind finding two games yet this year to sit Harrison, maybe this one (short rest) and our other remaining midweek game away at Montreal on September 27.

Give Villa another game off too.

Yes, I am more in the mood to rest Villa than Harrison at this point.

We are 6 points short of first and 6 points clear of 3rd. Very unlikely that we move in the table at this point. Better to be rested, but also in good form for the playoffs. To that end, it is worth remembering that there is an international break in mid-October that will give the team 2 weeks off (albeit after 3 games in 8 days).

The other side, is you keep playing hard until you are eliminated. We have a chance, albeit small, at the supporters shield. I would hate to see Toronto lose some surprise results, and we are not there to take advantage of it. It also forces them to continue to play starters to secure the shield, potentially tiring them for the playoffs.

this stat was given to me by a friend and i havent checked the accuracy of it yet but:

With the win last night we need 11/21 points to clinch a playoff spot and Toronto needs 16/21 to clinch #1 spot
