Ignore if the ESPN link was posted, but my Red Bulls colleague just forwarded it to me with a heckle.

A lot of spots have the story...

You should reply back.. "I couldn't seem to locate the red bulls on the CCL bracket.. can you help?"

shit if the news outlets gave the league this much attention it would help the league.

Related: someone above early this morning said Chavez was wrong again. I think that's accurate, but unfair. I think the club was wrong when it presumed they would get St Johns approved. Nick just wrote what his club sources told him.
It’s completely fair. Chavez always touts his access and clairvoyance, because he wants to be seen as the predominant authority on info and leaks. They leaked it to him and he ran with it before it was sanctioned by the one entity that could actually bless it finalized. He was the first(?) to hype it and he’s the first(?) with mud on his face - sometimes it’s better to not be the conduit for others’ agendas and take a wait and see approach.

My more likely response would have been "I agree" given that it was something along the lines of "you guys really need your own stadium."

Are those minor renovations to the new beer zones in the corners going on right now? Is that part of the reason YS is unavailable?

Not sure how it is short notice? We knew since December that there'd be CCL games in February and one of them would be played home. So 2 plus months isn't enough time to prepare ?

Butler seems to think it's all but confirmed.

Short notice because the St. John's stadium was only nixed in the last couple of days, and now we are down to 3 weeks.

Two things:

1. Buses from Manhattan to RBA during rush hour. Good luck with that, enjoy watching the game from the tunnel.

2. Is the time really confirmed as 6 pm? No game ever starts that early. Does RBA have a winter curfew?

true but here is where we are, there is no stadium and the baseball stadium not going to open, if twitter is believed they thought of CT again but wanted more "local" so they went to RBA. honestly yes it kills the brand more but this is a game that was not going to be attended well in the start anyway.

the death of the brand is a league/ playoff/ final played at RBA....honestly we are not that far off from that.

This has been death by a thousand cuts. This is just a larger cut.

Right. St. John's stadium was nixed a day or two ago. Now we need somewhere else, and the three weeks we have left might be too soon to take Yankee Stadium out of mothballs.
nono, the other way around - they're saying for yankee stadium back in december, as to why they didn't do it then so it would not have been short notice.

I think e cost to open YS or Citi Field is prohibitive when viewed against the expected revenue. They won’t be able to charge much for the tickets, so you’re looking at, what, $30k in revenue. It could cost that much to run the lights.

I don’t think a field prep issue — the grass at both fields is grown elsewhereand rolled out much closer to the start of the season.

Can’t imagine either was ever an option unless we drew a mega team.
Belson’s facilities (I.e. locker room/treatment room) are probably not up to par.
Thi doesn’t bug me much — if 2 Milan clubs can share a stadium in perpetuity, we can survive using their stadium.
I just hope they’re able to turn the field around quick enough for their CCL home game.

They should have copied what Liverpool did last night for the Shrewsbury FA cup game and fill the place up by selling kids tickets for a buck and dirt cheap adult tickets

take the loss in P/l for the night and make some money on the food and booze while hopefully attracting some new fans to YS

Liverpool is filled with people who want to go to LFC games and never get to go because of lack of supply and/or cost. LFC has its own stadium. None of those things hold true here and the stadium won’t fill up for a CCL midweek game of soccer in February at any ticket cost. And every report we have says the Yanks won’t open the joint at any price.
Other than that NYCFC should totally do this.

I'd be surprised if the club would get any proceeds from concessions for the night. They're in a really tough spot in trying to land a venue that is CONCACAF/FIFA approved so not in a good bargaining position. And the current concessions at RBA likely has no contractual obligation to anything CFG/NYCFC/Yankees related.

repeating what I said months ago, but I think CFG should give STH’s free tickets to the first “home” CCL game. Personally, I am not feeling compelled to spend money On a night game in Jersey mid week. Especially when this team takes six games into the season to hit winning form. A little persuasion and appreciation for this STH may get my but in a RB arena seat end of Feb.
