This must be a money move. Unless the weather is terrible, place will be packed with CR fans. It's the only available opportunity to have a large crowd with YS and CF out of the picture.

Didn’t even think of that. CR fans are gonna pack the place just like the USA implosion match when they turned it into a home field environment.

At the fan event tonight, Brad did not exactly give the rose-colored view on playing at RBA, if that does end up happening. Also in this article, he says there is no contract signed yet, he expressed frustration at what they're being forced into doing, and generally said some of the things we've hoped in this thread that they would say when this is eventually announced.

"We feel that playing in the greater metropolitan area in a venue that is close enough distance for our fans to make it if they so choose is unfortunately the only scenario that we're probably left with at this point," Sims said. "And it's disappointing and I share everybody's frustration here, ultimately if that ends up being the case."

They’re from a city of around 200,000 and are not a part of the big two that takes up a massive percentage of the country’s soccer fans. Now out of this amount of fans how many do you think live in the NY/NJ area? I’d be shocked if there’s more then 50 away fans at the game

wish they’d at least play at Hofstra. At least it’s not NJ. Did they try Columbia?

I'd imagine Columbia is off the table for the same reasons St John's would be? Biggest reasons are probably signage/ad space or the seating at each not meeting the regulations. I find it hard to believe they haven't figured out where to play yet since regulations require all of this be taken care of months ago. Would concacaf give us some special treatment for some reason? I personally don't think so.

Think Sims is just trying to lessen the blow. It is what it is. I think closed door game would be fine. Considering location and kickoff time, attendance will be pretty slim. But I don't think closed door is an option.

Just another stumble from the front office. This club constantly shoots itself in the foot. Just announce something as this point, because fans are already pissed off.

Either Sims is lying or they've had 4 months to get a location for this game and they're scrambling at the last minute to find a location. Both options are terrible IMO.

Feels like we just constantly take crap from this team, eat it down, and ask for more...

you and me both brother. Glad i finally cut the chord on the STs. It’s now annoying, but doesn’t bother me as much. Waiting on QBFC next year to hopefully fill my soccer needs without the bullshit. Keep seeing these beautiful USL stadiums being built. Imagine if they build a 20k stadium next to Citi for QBFC before they try to buy into MLS? That’s doing it the right way.

Imagine that qbfc stadium not letting NYCFC play there when ys and Citi aren't available. That sounds about right.

Yeah I was at that game. Terrible experience. That area has a huge Costa Rican community. That was a national team game so maybe this won't be as big as a draw, but I'd be very surprised if they didn't have a 3 to 1 ratio to NYC fans.

That’s my thought - not a national team, and not everybody’s favorite CR club, but everybody is a tribal follower of the club for a local match.

Imagine if you will a professional soccer club formed without a place to play. Wandering from field to field, not letting their fans know where they will play. While new teams form every day building beautiful stadiums all over the country. This may sound absurd, but it is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

Another reason to support a closed door match.

For all you lazies:
Brad Sims said:
Sims, who took over as CEO in January 2019, said he’s heard concerns about the club’s communication, but cited legal and contractual issues as the cause of any lack of information directly from the organization.
“The truth is, we cannot communicate things that aren't real and aren't materializing in things where contracts haven't been signed. So, we're not in a situation where we're going to break news to our fans, almost ever. And that's the reality,” Sims said. “And that's the reality, going back five years, that's reality today, and that will be the reality going forward. And unfortunately, it's kind of the world we live in, where we can't legally announce something until there's contracts signed by all the parties that are a part of that contract. And that's unfortunate, because people hear rumors and things leak out, and we can't really comment on it. I've probably already said more than I'm supposed to say today.”
Sims said the club has pursued a variety of options within the city, but simply hasn’t been able to find something suitable for the competition.
“Quite frankly, we felt that we had more than one viable venue and a suitable venue within the five boroughs. And we've been in a situation where we've been working hard to get a venue approved, a venue that we all would feel good about, that our club feels good about, that our fans feel good about, and we've not had any luck there, unfortunately. And I think that, as it stands at this moment, just for the record, we do not have a deal to play... we don't have a venue deal as it stands currently, at the moment, contrary to, you know, to the reports. We've been holding out every spot we possibly can. We've been trying to do everything we possibly can to find a venue that that we feel good about and will be approved by CONCACAF. And it's been a struggle, it's been unfortunate, it's been a struggle. It goes with the territory.”
