It's one game. It sucks, but it's one game. I'm not sure what the Front Office is thinking. You take any other viable stadium over RBA, even in CT.

I think it's possible this wasn't their decision. CCL apparently nixed all their other options, so here we are. For all we know this decision was made by CONCACAF.

If it's not a closed door match, I guess those NYCFC who attend boo the Concacaf anthem like Man City supporters have booed the UEFA anthem.

Where is the email from NYCFC? Why no formal announcement from the team?
Because they were probably waiting to dump it on a friday afternoon so now they gotta scramble.
Just boycott the game. It sucks for our guys but the FO shouldn't get any bail from the fans.

i think only st johns was submitted and was nixed. both baseball stadiums and even the cyclones park were probably never submitted to begin with.

My thoughts on this whole thing: If being in NYC was the one thing that separated us from RB, playing in NJ will essentially kill that. From now on when people claim we're NY's team, everyone can just point to the fact that we've played in Jersey. Hartford was bad enough, but this is just pathetic. This club really is poorly run.

This seems the most likely explanation to me. I would imagine that the stadium and field go through a pretty extensive winter shutdown, and that it might be too complicated to move up the opening, particularly on short notice.

Not sure how it is short notice? We knew since December that there'd be CCL games in February and one of them would be played home. So 2 plus months isn't enough time to prepare ?

Butler seems to think it's all but confirmed.

As a show of good will, the club should have buses ready for those who need it and free tickets for members. It's a tough location at a difficult time for many who work in this area.
Free tickets would definitely be great, but I'm not sure buses would be all that helpful. Taking a bus (from wherever they would be launching from) during rush hour traffic from the city to Harrison would probably take much longer than the PATH.

When the Yanks played at Shea during the renovation of the old Yankee Stadium, no one questioned who they were. We all knew they were are the Bronx Bombers. The same with NYCFC. This will all be a moot point when we have played a decade or two in our stadium (in the Bronx). No one is going to care that we played a handful of games outside of NYC during our preadolescent years.

I'm curious as to what happened with the St. John's location? There seemed to be several decent sources noting that was going to be the location and now this 180.

I understand that the club doesn't even have final say for the venue choice as FIFA/CONCACAF needs to sign off on it, but I am surprised at how quick the St. John's rumors turned to RBA.

true but the argument is that yankees had a home and all it was is renovations. we dont have a home and wont have one for at least a few years ( if all goes to plan).
we are just subject jokes and all the stuff about a city team kinda goes out the window. its not a deal breaker for me its just embarrassing, and when the derby comes is not like FO can poke fun at them being NJ team when we played an official game there as well.

I think the club proposed St. Johns to CONCACAF and expected it to be approved. Meanwhile they leaked the site to the usual suspects to manage expectations. Then they were CONCACAFed and, before they could roll out their messaging, the CR team dropped the news.

Related: someone above early this morning said Chavez was wrong again. I think that's accurate, but unfair. I think the club was wrong when it presumed they would get St Johns approved. Nick just wrote what his club sources told him.

its not big enough, i think also its mostly bleachers and not seats. IIRC concacaf in their rule book wanted stadiums with mostly seats and suites or some sort separate sections for opposing team staff etc. also wanted a bunch on concacaf signage etc in there and again i think st johns barely had space for ads. .

didnt he say it was going to by the cyclones stadium? st johns was not something he broke at least i dont think.

Ignore if the ESPN link was posted, but my Red Bulls colleague just forwarded it to me with a heckle.

It was trending on Twitter.
I wouldn’t be surprised if RBNY supporters attend the game and troll us.

That was me, he's posted a lot of incorrect things on twitter from "sources". A stadium deal has been done per him at least three times.
