A little surprised they're putting our game opposite a potential Yankees World Series game (that's the night of Game 2) -- they could have put us on Thursday, on a World Series off day. It might not matter, but you'd think they would want the New York audience not getting split by the World Series.
And imagine if the Yankees are in the World Series against a team that’s not the Dodgers... that would mean they HOST game 2. So odd that they wouldn’t make this match Thursday

Atlanta, Minnesota, LA Galaxy and LAFC all share a city with a potential World Series team. They cannot all play on October 23. So why do you think the New York City situation is the most urgent to be held on different days?

The most likely teams in the World Series are the Yankees, Dodgers, and Astros. MLS knows this. LAFC is hosting on the 24th, that's when we should be hosting, too. It will be a logistical nightmare for NYC officials to have a World Series game potentially in the Bronx, and an NYCFC playoff game w/20,000+ fans at Citi Field. We're New York City so we can handle it, but it shouldn't be necessary.

Also, our team has struggled more to gain traction in this market than LAFC has. They should protect NYCFC a bit by making sure we're not going up against the Yankees. And the Yankees, as part owners, should have wanted that too. Obviously they don't care though, which is typical.

NYCFC and LAFC are the two biggest MLS markets and TV draws in the playoffs. They split the nights to draw the biggest TV audience across 2 nights of playoff matches. They are also the 2 conference winners. Many reasons (mostly $$) for MLS to separate those 2 on different nights.

yes and no. Sadly there doesn’t seem to be a TV audience when NYCFC plays the national games. We’ve all had theories, but the ratings don’t lie. So always give LA preference for tv spots because that’s where the $ is.

Besides LA, the other game on the 24th (and not opposite the WS) will probably be in Atlanta. Those could easily be the 2 biggest ratings winners. I think the way they did it totally makes sense.

i feel part of it its due to the FOX sports studios etc being in LA. So perhaps much easier to hyper it locally and maybe have more production dedicated to follow and show their games.

I know the FOX deportes team constantly are on LAFC's nuts, why? because they are in LA and in the home games they are broadcasting the announce team is in their in the stadium in their booth from like 11 AM or something even though the kick off is like at 5 PM. They may be showing bundesliga games during that time but during the half time shows or bundesliga pre game shows they show them and they are in the LAFC stadium.

Fine. But surely you should also look at the schedule to see what could impact the viewership. Here's what's going on the night of the 23rd.

Potentially World Series Game 2, maybe at Yankee Stadium, Brooklyn Nets opening night at Barclays (don't laugh, they're huge now after all the signings), NYCFC playoff game (potentially at Citi Field)

First of all, that's a lot for the authorities to manage. Second of all, that's a lot of teams to split the NY viewership, especially the Yankees in the World Series which will swamp anything and everything in this city if they're still alive. I just thought, with the Thursday being a baseball off day and Thursday featuring only a Rangers early-season game at the Garden, you'll do much better TV rating wise in this market by pushing NYCFC to Thursday.

Fantastic news. Hopefully "soon" means first game of playoffs on the 23rd. Let's hope Heber is in the same boat and only has a minor calf injury.

No it's not.

The NYPD is 38K strong and that's before they call in their auxiliary units, which is another 4500. That's nearly the size of 3 army divisions. With the way NYPD officers like to log overtime, and the relatively small size of three stadium venues - as opposed to the force needed to protect a 26.2 mile marathon course or every city block during UN Week - the drain on the department is going to be easily manageable.

Plus, it's not as if the City has never had 3 teams playing concurrently before. I don't feel like looking it up, but I assume it happens on occasion.
Between Yankee Stadium, Citi/Tennis, MSG and Barclays, whether it be sporting events or concerts, they fill up lots of dates. I'm sure it's fairly routine to have conflicts.

If it was the LIRR, they’d have 10k employees working overtime for the three events with only 52 actually on site.
