Home - September 26 - Cincinnati (Postgame)

Rony is reminding me more and more of PV and Dome. Good coaches each invested in developing their own style of play and imprinting it on the team. A period of learning curve without what we would consider good results and at the end there is a team that plays attractive soccer and gets results.

I think PV and Dome had a system and stuck with it until it worked. RD seems to keep throwing different shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. I am, admittedly and non-sarcastically, not as keen of an observer as most on this forum, but that's what it looks like to me.

Player selection has not been great for Ronny, but he has a clear system. We have been playing a 4231 formation with the same tactical deployment since coming out of the bubble.

Last game wasn't too different gameplan wise from what we did last week outside of Ronny actually playing our best attackers.

I feel like the hipster hype on Cacha is approaching Fetch The Bolt Cutters levels. This kid is good, no doubt. But we're going to ignore everything else going on and focus on why he's a 10? Based on what?

(Niche post alert)
I know right? That’s crazy people want to anoint him as the 10. Like, on what basis. How many minutes has the guy played?
Can’t we see more of him before we ship Maxi out?
Oh people.

The challenge is that we have 3 really good players who are all best as a holding midfielder. It requires a certain amount of creativity and compromise to get even 2 of them on the field at once, much less 3.

Maybe 4 if you count Parks along with Sands, Ring and Cacha. I think the team fully expected Sands to be gone by now so they signed Cacha as his replacement. Then the world got turned upside down and it's looking like Sands will be sticking around for longer than planned which is great for us but certainly causes lineup challenges. It will be interesting to see how things play out moving forward, especially if Ring is going to miss multiple games with whatever injury forced him to leave the FCC game. If Ronnie plays an attacker at LW and our scoring picks up it will be hard to justify putting Ring back at LW when he returns but how do you bench the teams undisputed captain.

Ronny said it was just a knock and Ring will be ready for next game. Though that was what he said after the game. Things could have changed.

That makes complete sense. I barely want to drive to work right now -- getting on a plane is not something I'm even remotely looking forward to until this is over. Much less traveling across the world? That's a hard pass for me, and I'm sure some of these players feel the same way.

and also when they come back they may have to quarantine 2 weeks and may miss at least 2/3 games ( assuming they negative)

Exactly. It seems pretty crazy to even think about going halfway across the world for international duty right now.

Flamengo traveled to Ecuador for Libertadores and half the team came back positive. The article even mentions one of the players catching it on the plane flight.

Dome was reported to be one of the positive cases, and with all that they still got a game scheduled tomorrow, they been using youth/ reserve players in a lot of games
