James Sands [Midfielder] [HG]

Reyna and Sands should be depth for our senior squad. Our federation is so poor at evaluating talent. It’s embarrassing that Sands can’t even get a call up to the U-20 team.
In a way it’s a good thing since it’s clearly added fuel to his fire.

US Federation's biggest problem is politics. Sure, it probably exists in all federations but for the US, it is a big factor holding us back. It's pretty clear coaches selected by the federation choose players they are familiar with instead of choosing the best players. This is especially true for Berhalter with the senior squad. How else can you explain Zardes and Trapp getting selected? Neither are international caliber and it shows.

Wish the federation had just swallowed their pride and hired Tata Martinez when he was available. I'm willing to bet the team would have a very different lineup and playing with more creativity.

Sands definitely needs to be included in the U-23 team and definitely called up as depth for the senior squad. To snub him is to further show how poor the US federation is.

How long do you think we can hold on to him? Kind of presume he's Europe bound eventually .

I'd say if he continues with his form and continues improve, we'll have him for another 2 years before he's snatched up by someone in europe.

I could see him being transferred out this winter. If he makes it through the winter and is with the team for 2020, I think he's gone in the summer transfer window. I'm presuming he has a few clubs looking at him, especially Championship level teams that may be looking for a boost at the halfway point of their promotion battle. Maybe even a Premier League club fighting relegation.

From his standpoint/potential, I think it would be best to transfer him to a BuLi team. But it is still a ways off before we get a better idea where he may be going.

I think he should stay at NYCFC until at least summer 2020 for a few reasons:
1) Big chance of winning something within the next year or two
2) He's 19, lots of older 'experiences' players in his position, so he might not get starts immediately, but at 20 with two seasons of starts under his belt at a big MLS club will be good.
3) Jimmy no don't leave us T-T
4) Increase his value

I'm not sure he can go to England. Zack Steffen still doesn't have enough USMNT caps.

True. I always forget about the stipulations surrounding PL transfers/English work laws. Bundesliga or Eredivisie (Ajax or PSV) would be great places for him to get playing time.

maybe summer 2020 earliest. he has no massive hype even in MLS. not called to U20, unless berhalter calls him up for games this fall

I doubt he's doing anything crazy, there's no way in a million years it healed so quick!

slow and steady. at least he's got the will to say, "hey, i can get on my feet and keep my lower body and cardio in shape til I'm ready to play" .. a lesser individual, especially at the ripe young age of 19, would be complaining about any small pain and sitting out longer.

If he goes, and he should, especially after seeing Scally get Bank, then it’s very obvious the direction the Academy is taking. Sign with team, play a year, and we’ll then get you bought by a German or other club.

honestly i thought sands was going to go first before scally who has yet to play a minute of MLS
