James Sands

90 minutes on 5/31, 72 on 5/28, 90 on 5/21...

He has played when we have 2-3 players ahead of him out. For 3 midfield spots, he was behind Maxi, Ring, Herrera, Pirlo, sometimes Stertzer, and to some extent our wingers who could move back.

And now, he is behind Sands as well.

His parents got hot & heavy in 1999...

We have 3 midfield guys we are comfortable with - Ring, Herrera and Moralez. There will be injuries and suspensions and call-ups. Maybe even some squad rotation.

To say that Lopez isn't a part of the team right now is borderline idiotic. I'm sorry to be harsh, but we lack quality depth at the MF position. The versatility of a Herrera and Ring and Harrison allow you to slot a James Sands into a line-up in lieu of Lopez, McNamara or Sterzer. Not sure Pirlo ever suits up again but who knows.

The discussion wasn't over whether he SHOULD play, it was that he DOES play, that was all.

All I know, is that I'm going to be a lot more confident protecting a lead by subbing in Sands than bringing in a 5th defender.

He's technically a DMid, but with his experience as a CB with the U17, in this situation he'd really be that Stopper position we had in HS... planted right in front of the Defense giving no space at the top of the box.

yesssss, when we bring on brillant to defend a lead i want to fucking die

in the open cup. i was talking regular season. and even when plays his minutes are extremely limited.
Mikey has started 3 games this season. Ring is going to get another yellow card suspension. Herrera will get called up to Venezuela. PV will want squad rotation during the heat of the summer. My over/under for starts this year for Sands is 4 -- not insignificant.

Last year Mikey started and played 90 minutes in 5 consecutive games in April and May, then played a total of 110 minutes over the last 16 games of the season without starting once. There is no reason to expect this year will be different. Gator is right: He is now buried on the depth chart unless we have another perfect storm of injuries and international callups and DGWs we are unlikely to see Mikey in any sustained dosage for the rest of the season.
