Kwadwo Poku [Midfielder]

Villa for sure but I think guys like Poku and Mix who could have been important chess pieces to make our team VERY good didn't cut it because they couldn't make up for what our other 2 DP's lacked (speed/recovery/defense).

If that's your issue then the point isn't quality over name for DPs, the point is strategic construction of squad as a whole.

Right. Like whether we should have passed on Pirlo because of the effect on Poku and Mix. It's a strong no.

I'm not so sure. I love Pirlo and I think he helps our team but I don't know that he helps our team to a degree that he is irreplaceable. Just looking at the numbers... McNamara has been better.

In three years once Pirlo's comfortably retired McNamara will have stepped in and taken over, as he should. So no, Pirlo's not irreplaceable of course. But if you only look at the numbers you might forget that Pirlo's one of the best in the world, even at the tail of his career. So yeah, I'm a big Tommy Mac fan, sure, but this is Pirlo we're talking about.

Of course I recognize who he is in the world of soccer. I also recognize how statistically he is being outpaced by Tommy McNamara. Watching him hold the ball and rope defenders is a thing of beauty. Watching him miss through passes, send lobs too short and NEVER taking shots is not so pretty.

I would love for him to take some shots from the top of the box rather than make the pass. Mix it up a bit and keep them guessing.

Want. Badly.

Don't think so. He's on the allocation list. So we would have to trade up to the number one spot to sign him.
And he apparently fizzled out in Miami for the same reasons he fell out of favor here and elsewhere.

Good for him, but that's a bit telling for his team. The u19 BNT side are the guys not good enough to make the u20 team
At least they won. When I first read it I figured they lost and then scratched my head. How do two players score and you lose 2-1. Meh, that's what happens when you're born out of the country and learn the language late.

I misread it the same way you did. It should have been phrased as a "win over" or the past-tense "defeated".
