Maxi Moralez [Midfielder]

Then we should just mutually buyout the contract then, just a waste of budget space

yea. with heber's injury as a guideline, he was injured 9/2020 and was cleared to do fully training with the team 8/2021. nearly 1 full year of recovery. so we'd get maxi back next year in time for a final run into the playoffs if we're lucky and who knows what kind of fitness/sharpness he'll have. i think having him on the squad and in the locker room will be very beneficial for everyone else though. and i'm guessing he will do all his recovery here in NY.

I believe there is salary cap relief for long-term injuries.

Also, that is an incredibly callous way of roster building. The guy is a club legend, he can rehab on our roster.

If the method is a buyout, is it callous? Also, what about buying out his playing contract for cap purposes and then signing him as an assistant coach? Is that possible?
It’s callous because we are basically saying we don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.

Now maybe he’d be open to it, because he intends to retire anyway. But if he wants to come back and play, you leave that door open.

Also, he could easily come back sooner than 11 months. Depends on the extent of the injury and how the rehab progresses, but lots of athletes come back from an ACL faster than that.

He will be 37 in February. The Club chose to sign him for 1.3 seasons though 2024 without even an option for 2025 because he's so old. Everyone could see in just 2 games that he still has some magic but clearly lost something also. If they buy him out he still gets paid and can live and rehab in NY. Is there a rule that would forbid him from using club health services and rehab facilities?

Keeping him on payroll in a capped league is sentimental and self-destructive. But they'll probably do so.

Season-ending injuries, which we can declare this year but we can only sign free agents in the next 8 days.

Next year, if we want to play Maxi for the final games which he could be available, we can't place him on that list and get budget relief.

I am sure his salary is at a number that does not demonstrably harm us. Also considering our roster construction, I'd bet we have some cap space to sign more players for next season. We're not going to lose because Maxi Moralez is on the IL for most of next season.
