Maxime Chanot [Defender]

So I heard they were about to perform his surgery today and last minute moved it to a hospital in Hartford.

Lets also take into consideration that regardless of his intentions, that's what Chanot is going to say. I mean, the quotes from him definitely are encouraging to a certain degree, and nice to hear, but I wouldn't say that these quotes from make me confident that he's definitely staying here.

You referring to his sentence about being under contract :) It seemed a more sincere posting, than normally found when rumors start, until the reference to being under contract. Then it became typical CYA.

re: Chanot's statement

Did anyone expect anything different? He's not going to have a tantrum and say "Yeah, I want to leave" with another year left on his contract. Remember that Chris Wingert and Andrew Jacobson were totally part of the plan for Vieira his first season during the beginning of pre-season according to everyone, that is until they were traded.

Obviously I can't get inside Chanot's head and figure out what he actually wants, but if that's what he said then that's all there is. I stand by my source and initial report. I guess we'll know this winter.

Exactly.

Though I would like to say that I have no reason to go against you and your source, because you usually provide great info. But I really, really, really hope your source is wrong on this one :D

I like chanot don't get me wrong, but I don't like that, in a good year, we lose him for 2-4 games a season for the pisspot Luxembourg team ( or more if he picks up an injury, case in point). I'm sorry if he/others are offended by my stance on his national team but I don't care about a historic 0-0 tie with france if it means we are losing our #1 defender. This is a capped league and we spend a good chunk of our budget on him, so when he is out our depth gets hamstrung. He isn't a flashy name or on a flashy NT, so I don't see his value for the marketing of our team/league. My only guess is these demerits I mention reduce his price making him attractive talent/$ for our team assuming he stays healthy. And if that is true, it means he is taking a pay cut being here, and I absolutely wouldn't fault him for wanting to get out to grab as many dollars as he can. Soccer careers can be short so he needs shoot for max contracts. So for me this plays out fine if we keep him on current salary or he gets sold for big bucks. I am ok being a stepping stone club for player trying to get attention if we are getting a good deal on the salary for a couple years or make a big payout on their sale. Rinse and repeat for that sweet sweet GAM and pull away from the rest of the league. But for future players I really would like to avoid international team players. Go for unrecognized talent from the big NTs where the player has a small chance to be called up.

I'm with you. I really hope he stays. He's a fantastic player and person and NYCFC would be losing a huge asset if he decides to leave.

But I don't think this scenario would come into play next year. Luxembourg has called him in for their qualifiers, but Luxembourg isn't qualifying for the WC, so any international games they have next year would be friendlies.

If he was on the roster next year and fully fit, the amount of games he would miss due to international duty should decrease dramatically (same with Ring and Herrera)
