MLS Cup Playoffs - Conference Semifinals - 2017

What was that that they were chanting there at the end of the match? It was the loudest I heard their fans the whole game, but couldn't make out what they were saying.
Couldn't make out either at one point I thought it was Metro Reject towards Bradley and Altidore
I could not make it out either but it started during the extra time injury. I figured it was directed at that. In the end the ref added the time anyway.

Its great how that was hard to hear but the "fuck you Jozy" chant was the loudest chant of the night. Fox has to get a new sound guy

I didn't think the PK in the first half of HOU-POR should have been called off on VAR. It looked like he clipped him before getting ball. It definitely did not show clearly that he got all ball, or even ball first.

I thought I saw ball first. But still was a wild tackle in the box. And he got yellowed for the exact same tackle out of the box a few minutes later.

I caught that earlier, but I think this one sounded a bit different. But again, it wasn't clear to me, so it could have been the same chant.

Either way, I thought their attitude towards them were classless (though I guess I wouldn't be surprised if some of our fans had similar actions). And remember that the next time you hear a NJ fan talking up about how they had Jozy when he was young and then sold him. Apparently, he's just a "reject" to them now.

Like, for comparison's sake. If Jack goes to Europe in a year. Then comes back 8 years later and signs with another team on a DP-deal. Would we be calling him a City Reject?

I think many are overstating how much the Jozy & Michael chants were about having played in NJ. They didn’t get that treatment a couple of weeks ago, and guys like Tim Howard haven’t gotten it in the past.

This is about losing to T&T - or more accurately, going down to T&T with everything on the line and not even trying hard. It was disgraceful, and they deserve to be roundly booed in every MLS stadium.

To be totally fair to both, they have had plenty of NT games where they didn’t show up at all, so no one should be surprised.

Well, yes and no.

They were clearly chanting "Metro Reject at Jozy". And maybe this part is splitting hairs, but I'm ok with booing those guys for their performances for the national team. But chanting "F You Jozy" is over the line IMO.

is it me or did robles give WAAAAY to much space to his right in the FK? i mean no matter how good you think your defensive wall is...giovinco is more than capable to go over that and everyone has seen it happen time after time

Agree that the F You is too much. Booing them every time they touch the ball is about right.

There is a nice article about it on the MLS website, followed by comments from deranged Toronto supporters that the only reason U.S. fans are hard on those two is that they play for a Canadian team.

Really.

There is a nice video about this one on the MLS site too. Murillo was supposed to run back and cover that side, but he was late getting there. Goal is 100% on him.

yes it looked like he went left since there was no team mates there so he felt he needed to cover and it cost him.

How has no one here not commented on the phantom foul call Giovinco got for the free kick?

And worse than that, it should have been a foul on that donkey Altidore before it even got to him. Jozy literally threw the defender down.

So I guess that’s going to be allowed again this year. Must be in his contract that he signed after failing miserably in England for the second time. Shit player he is.
I didn't see that sequence until this morning. I thought the Jozy play and the foul on Giovince were basically identical.

From what I saw on Twitter, RB fans are also still angry at the criticism that the crowd at RBA got for the CR game. On this issue, I stand with them. I was there, and the crowd had more energy than the team that night, as we discussed at the time.

Yeah, and I get that. But did Jozy say anything specifically on that? He very well might have and I missed it.

Otherwise, I still think the F you Jozy is over the line. If he did specifically criticize the crowd at RBA that night, then I'm a much more ok with it.

I guess the question is did he feel like he needed to cover it? Or was he supposed to?

Robles is one of the guys on NJ that I really respect from both his character and play and I would just imagine that he wouldn't position himself so poorly on that FK. Expecting Murillo to be there for to cover it in time seems a bit more likely. It also lines up a bit with some of the "outside the box" mindset that Marsch sometimes brings when approaching set pieces. This time, its an interesting tactic to take to neutralize Giovinco's FK ability - but they just didn't execute on it.

Apparently, his assignment was to start up high and then run back and cover that spot as Gio got ready to kick it. This is something Dax used to do, but it is difficult to time, and Murillo just missed the window.

No, no reason to single out Jozy for special F-you status on that, AFAIK.

According to new comments in the MLS article, Houston's crowd were giving Besler and Benny the same treatment, it just hasn't been as clearly reported.

I'm glad this is happening outside Houston too. The knockout round against Sporting was really fun especially since both Besler and Fielhaber were booed so much. If Besler was anywhere near the ball he got booed a lot. You could tell that everyone was doing that because of the Terrible result in T&T. I mean come on, just don't get scored on. I wish i could have booed Tim Howard since he sucked it up down there, but he sucked it up elsewhere too so he isn't in the playoffs.
