Mls Cup Playoffs

I hope Columbus equalizes in the second.

I feel like they dominated the last 20-25 minutes of the first half.

They were hard done by on Portland's second goal but props to Portland for realizing no whistle had blown and playing to the whistle.

NYCFC_Dan NYCFC_Dan Falastur Falastur Maybe open the chat box for this one?

Yeah, that's my bad. I've only had half an eye on the MLS Cup tbh, probably because to my British eye play-offs are for deciding the final promotion place, not league winners. Then I got so wrapped up watching the snooker that I didn't notice this post until just now.

I've opened the chat up for all it's worth. I won't be advertising it with an email as we usually do as it doesn't seem worth it now, but feel free to use the chatbox for the next hour or so.

Why is isn't the ref of the year calling this game? Alan Kelly is the best.
Jair is about the worst of the refs, and I feel like he's been around forever.

Timbers definitely deserved to win. They showed up from the first whistle, defended the hell out of everything Columbus threw at them, and the wacky circumstances of their two goals were ultimately justified by total fluke goal denials courtesy of some very weird post ricochet-physics. They were superior at winning the ball, intercepting the ball, playing through balls and finding shots, to my eye.

Agree that this sloppy-ass league championship final does MLS no favors in the eyes of world football, but it was definitely worth watching.

Congrats to the Timbers.

Fluke goal in first minute and missed throw illegal goal for the win.

So besides the garbage goals, good game. At least RB didn't win it.

I think everyone is selling Valeri way short on what he did. I've never even seen what he did attempted before. He went into a 100% sprint and a diving tackle on a GK 27 seconds into the game. Who does that? Who could see it coming? Who could imagine it? No one but Valeri obviously.

If you watch the replay, you can catch a glimpse of Steve Clark's absolute shock at the play.

I think you can't call it a fluke because it's exactly what Valeri intended to do.

Huge play by Valeri and I agree he deserves mountains of credit.

But also a ridiculously careless decision by the goalie. Imagine being a Crew diehard fan and watching that happen.

Didn't see the goal but in sure it happened to us this season.

Yeah I believe it was meara that stopped the ball on the end line and had it taken away from him for a goal.

Huge argument for instant-replay by the way, with that ball that was way out of bounds right before the second Timbers goal. Could have sent it to extra time in the end.

Hold it, Supreme Commander Dan didn't watch the MLS Cup final? I'm flabbergasted.
Well he didn't actually say that. Perhaps Commander Dan was still shaking (not stirring) his martinis in preparation for the match. It happened pretty early on, after all.

That seems more likely, thank you.

I didn't watch it. Poor timing. Was still at the Buccaneer game. MLS cup final at 4 PM on a Sunday.... Really...
