MLS is Back Tournament - 2020

Does it really matter where the tournament is hosted so long as protocols make sense?

Unless the players try to bang the resort staff, it shouldn't matter. Food can be prepared and distributed safely. Nobody needs to actually enter the players rooms. They (i'd assume) won't be allowed anywhere.
Does it really matter if they play in Orlando or Martha's Vineyard?

They should do the Sportsex in MD. That makes much more sense right now.

We reopened almost a month ago and are just now starting to see cases rise. From videos and pictures I’ve seen of New Yorkers gathered in parks and outside of bars by the hundreds the same fate is awaiting y’all as well. They opened bars a week ago so the spike might not even be related based on the onset period.

With exponential growth considerations, the first couple weeks might just be giving a false sense of security.

If moving the tournament out of Florida will prevent players from doing stupid shit like six of them visiting a bar together -- just before heading into a quarantined isolation tournament -- then take the tournament out of Florida. Except the entire time that MLS will be in Florida they will be isolated and away from the world, including even other Disney World guests, so it makes no sense at all.

This is why I'll predict that MLS will be fine through the length of the tournament but I won't go further. Once controls are lifted you can expect players to do stupid things. I thought at least they would have the sense and self-control to get through the pre-tournament phase when they are not quarantined, but apparently the Pride players lacked even that amount of discipline.

Mentioned this in the COVID thread. I wonder if the players union is urging them to speak out against the tournament in Florida. I know in our players case they’ve never really spoken out about anything.
Did Stuver or any other NYC player complain ever about being in metro-NY the last 3 months? Because suddenly to complain about Florida is irrational in that context and if this is his first pronouncement he's dumber than a bag of hammers.

Daily new cases (per million). This is Stuver's reason for wanting out of Florida now, as Florida just spiked to 187 new daily cases/M, but he sat quietly through 4 spikes in NY over 500/M. Did he ever try to get out of the metro area or complain about the local conditions?

I'm rather disgusted with where I live right now and watching NYers -- from public figures to people I know online to people I know IRL -- lecture and criticize Florida for the last couple of weeks -- with this record and without any nod towards our own failures --has convinced me I live among .... I'm not going to put a word on it but I'm pretty sure you all know what I think.

Agree with the above. They are going to be sequestered and tested and disinfected. They couldn’t be in a safer environment right now, not to mention that a young, healthy 20-something has as much to fear from the plane ride down as from the virus.

While the risks are certainly lower to 20-somethings... I certainly don't think they should be taken it so lightly. I know a perfectly healthy 26 yo semi-pro basketball player who had it in early March. He's still not 100% yet. He still has some shortness of breath when working out. So while an athlete may not have serious risk of life...it's not unlikely that it will take several months to fully recover, which will basically be this entire season

Happening to live somewhere that is experiencing a pandemic and isolating in your own apartment is a lot different than being told to:

1. Fly somewhere
2. that is at a worse point in the pandemic than where you live to
3. interact with a much larger number of people (teammates, opponents, officials, etc) where
4. hotel/resort staff are not subject to the bubble and will be going back and forth between MLSville and real life and
5. someone within the bubble is bound to make different quarantine decisions than you would.
