A couple of thoughts on Saturday night.
1. Acevedo was quite mixed - often very good, often not at all good. The long passes were brilliant, and something we really need on this team right now, because we don't get it from Sands or Parks. At the same time, he had a few bad turnovers, including trying to dribble through people when passing options were there. Some of that might be rust. I do want so see more of them.
2. How about the incident where both Callens and Chanot dropped to the ground simultaneously with cramps? Clearly premeditated to waste time and a bad look. I wonder though if such tactics even work. The ref should be adding that time back on. Also, did anyone notice that after Johnson played the ball out for those "injuries" that Orlando took the throw in as a regular possession and didn't just play it back to us. That's equally offensive.

I wonder if Callens would've gone down had he known Chanot just went down. Seemed like he was turned away from him so probably didn't realize that Chanot had already gone to the ground.
The former dummyrun posted a tweet with the video of this and for some reason he has deleted it.
They really should just have a plan: Callens for away games; Chanot for home games.
I wouldn’t expect NYCFC to get a ton of MLS Digital coverage given that 1) the team doesn’t have anyone whom MLS Digital deems worth talking about 2) generally had a quiet offseason and with it reduced expectations and 3) generally doesn’t fit any of their predisposed narratives. If NYCFC is good it’s “well didn’t expect that” and if they are really bad it’s “well you could see that coming” as that was general consensus going into the season.
Personally I am surprised they have been this good - my expectations were quite low. Then again it is still early and a lot can change quickly. However if NYCFC is still in first three games from now (navigating Toronto, CLB, LAFC) I would expect some more talk about them.
It’s actually nice to have a low profile, let them yammer away about Minnesota, Austin, Chicharito, etc.
refs rarely add time for this unless its done many times, which is why its still done all over. I think he only added 4 minutes, which would probably would of been the same even without the act.
What I remember from his previous cameos is that Acevedo is too cheeky or maybe even arrogant for his own good, in that he definitely likes to hold on to the ball/dribble more than necessary. He'll be responsible for GAx if he doesn't stop trying to be a superstar in that sense. OTOH the raw talent and vision are there, and with Maxi absent the need to hit good long balls increases.
I'd love the long ball ability with Maxi on the field as well. While Maxi likely won't be the runner receiving the long ball pass, he could be further up the pitch to combine after the pass is made.
I like them being und r the radar right now. If this team was prepeared for game one of the season we’d be right there with Seattle at the top if supporters shield standings. DC has how many wins beside the one against NYCFC? Jeesh the missed opportunity.

That’s looking behind. Looking ahead TFC is down so let’s kick em’ and pour salt in whatever wounds are available.
There is something good about this team that’s got us in a good position right now. There is also something not good that relates to blowing the DC game, escaping with a win against a 10 man Union squad when we should have won with emphasis and just snatching a point from Orlando when we probably should have won given the chances.
I’m excited and suppressing the nerves and anxiety about the next two matches.
There’s so many good things this team has shown and if they can work out the yips, get more in sync in the final 3rd and convert...
Love that Cacha delivered those two long balls, ITS went to his right to draw the penalty...
Keep getting better every week, Andrade could bring some spice to the attack and maybe sign an attacking Mid and/or Striker...

I gotta disagree with it being offensive. Both of our players were obviously faking, and since the custom of returning the ball to the side which plays it out is purely for sportsmanship reasons I don't see how Orlando was under any obligation to show sportsmanship when our players were shithousing in bad faith.

There was also a sequence in the 40' minute where Chanot went down (legit) after taking a ball to the face. The whistle was blown after the ball was cleared and was in the air, coming down. It landed on Taty's foot and then everyone stopped (the ball rolled towards an Orlando player). Orlando was given the ball and didn't give it back and it seemed like several NYCFC players took objection to that.
Disagree. Our players were certainly *acting* in bad faith, but as far as shithousing goes they were top of the table.
I mostly agree with your post but wonder why you think we weren't prepared for DC? DC won because they hit 2 extremely low probability shots. Good for them but I'm not sure you you game plan or prepare for that, and DC did not have any good chances. We failed to close on one (maybe both) but that's more effort than prep, and even without closing the odds of both those shots going in was extremely unlikely. We had better and more opportunities but they beat us with 2 long range bangers. So it goes sometimes.
Really hurts to read this that there are people that don't believe that NYCFC fans (and even employees) were assaulted by Orlando fans after the US Open Cup match in 2019. I thought about DM'ing the user and telling them my firsthand account of the incident which I remember quite well, but it's unlikely it would change their view.

Did NYCFC ever give you closure or circle back in any way? Did you even ever hear from the team employees who were assaulted with you?
I suppose I’m basing the idea they were not prepared because they would have looked better for more than 20 minutes in the game and been able to salvage at least a point. That’s at least how I remember it... 70 minutes of pretty sloppy play. That and DC hasn’t won a match in three tries after beating NYCFC in the season opener. I can’t really provide any hard evidence.
personally, i think where we lacked in preparation for the DC game was our fitness. we were two steps slower to every ball and it showed more as the game went on.
DC hit some bangers and that's just how it is sometimes, but I think we would have taken our chances or created more chances if we were in better shape vs DC.
It was said it was being handled internally. It's moot at this point.
Worth mentioning that DCU has had a ridiculous string of injuries to start the year. It was bad before our game and has gotten absurd since. Now, we still didn’t play well that day, but it’s worth keeping their recent performance in context.
