Red Bull’s are doing $1 hot dog night. Expecting a big turnout.

I'm probably not going to Red Bull Arena again for a match until the 2021 season, when the tunnel from the World Trade Center to New Jersey is reopened. It's closed on all weekends, excluding major holidays.

I don't want to take a subway, transfer to the PATH, then transfer to another PATH to get there and then have to do the same thing to get back home.

But it’s $1 hot dogs..

Vancouver steals 2 points in Harrison. Especially impressive given their last 48 hours of travel hijinx.

We’re 2 games behind and if we win those would be even on points with the conference leaders. Pretty crazy after how we started.

Pretty damn blurry, and I realize this is a fancy AI modeling program, but I fail to understand how he came to the conclusion of where to stop the vertical line from the ball. It (currently as drawn) stops at the inside of the endline, but what data points stipulate that’s where it’s supposed to be?

If the line stops higher, it’s inside of the net, and this is where the geometry of the player’s leg (compared to rest of body) comes in to play - yet it’s impossible to ascertain per the shadows since there are multiple shadows created from different light sources, so that’s not helpful.

His left knee looks like it’s about 6” proud of the inside of the endline (~10” from outside) and his right leg is extended so his ankle is well past the outside (in the goal) of the line..... with a lower leg at least 18-20” long (he’s taller than me and I’m 5’8 with ~18” lower leg knee/ankle), and the ball hitting the toes of his extended foot (at least 12” long foot), that’d put the end of the ball (8.65” circumference) a minimum 12” beyond the line -> even with benefit of doubt that ball hit middle of foot and not toes (6” closer), the nearest edge of the ball would still be 6” beyond the line. And if the leg isn’t horizontal, and instead at an angle of about 30degs (which is extreme), that’s still 3.5” beyond the line (yes, I plotted the points for accuracy).

So yeah, not sure how the guy/program has selected the inside of the endline as the place to mark the ball when the ball is blurry, but other visual clues of the body say otherwise. And I’m perfectly fine being wrong with this, as I probably am, I just really don’t understand, based on what’s shown, how the ball’s vertical point is plotted, hence my exercise.

Good thoughts. First, I would say that he (she?) often gets more than one angle and utilizes both in figuring things out, but then only shows the best angle in the tweet. Second, he has other data points just in that photo - most pertinently the outline of the goal itself. He should be able to utilize that to figure out the necessary length of a vertical line corresponding to the outside of the ball.

Still, I think you have good questions, so I think a friendly and respectful tweet would get a good explanation.

And LAFC is up 2-0 vs. Montreal after Vela scores his 15th of the season. He's on his way to the greatest season in MLS history.

Wondo scores 2, totals 150 MLS goals and San Jose defeat Toronto 2-1 in Canada.

The East went 0-6-1 against the West this week. In the last 2 weeks the East has 1 win, 11 losses, and 3 draws against the West 1 win, 11 losses and 2 draws against theWest. NYCFC played none of those games. 10 of them were played in the West, but that's a lot of good results for NYC. Nine more interconference games on tap next week with some more favorable matchups for the East.
