MLS Week 14 - 2019

After scoring the tieing goal and only playing 27 minutes midweek, Jonathan Lewis is left out of the 18 tonight for Colorado.

Look at that, Vela with another goal so 16 in 16 matches.

16g 9a is pretty ridiculous, and on the best team, don’t see him being stopped - Martinez’s record seems like it’s maybe just a placeholder.

The voting so far for Goal of the Week is pretty interesting. Taty is barely in 2nd place ahead of a fairly pedestrian goal by Elis of Houston, which is just ahead of a bicycle finish by Portland's Fernandez. Meanwhile, the leader by 15 percent is a free kick by Medujanin of Philly. Zlatan, meanwhile, is in 5th place by a good distance for his bit of magic.

Now, Medujanin's free kick was admittedly terrific, but it was 25 yards out from a dead spot, vs. Castellanos' blast from 34 yards out during the run of play. The Zlatan goal that caused everyone to lose their collective fucking minds last year was from 38 yards off the end line. And while we are on the subject of Zlatan, no way is his finish worse than the ones from Fernandez and Elis.

AHHHHHH. Come on. Where are your usually lofty standards??? He still had one foot on the ground. That's a volley. A fine one, but still just a volley.
Funny thing is I almost called it a scissor kick volley, but didn't because he hit it off one bounce. Scissor kicks and volleys are plays about which people disagree about the strictness of the definition.
