MLS Week 23 - 2018

I watched the end of ATL-TFC again.

I give a pass to Jozy. I won't be shocked if he is punished but it's not a choke hold and not violent either. Looks bad enough that he can't complain if he gets discipline though.
If Almiron did anything I can't see it, but somehow he set Mavinga off. So he did something but it could range anywhere from Mavinga overreacting to something innocuous to serous and much worse by Almiron.

The incident that prompted Mavinga to punch LGP is so weird. Mavinga is arguing, but in control of himself when an official and LGP run up and the official -- with LGP right behind him -- runs right into Mavinga, who didn't see either coming. It's hard to figure out why they ran like that. If LGP was running to Mavinga and the official was trying to stop him and get between them, then LGP should be suspended for trying to run through an official to get to Mavinga. But it doesn't really look like that, though to be fair we just see the end of it so it is hard to tell. What it looks like is the official and LGP both want to confront Mavinga and run up and chest bump him. But that would mean he official was at least momentarily insane because he had no reason to do that. The result was Mavinga basically gets assaulted by an official, I still guess inadvertently, and though he lost control, he had some presence of mind to punch at LGP and not the official.

There is a league narrative to get ATL to the CCL. Stejkal even wrote an article about Atlanta “conquering the world”. Garber wants to showcase MB’s 45k against Mexican teams.

One thing I can say...they better win something this year because you know that Josef and Almiron aren’t expecting to be in ATL in 2019. If the league doesn’t sell them expect a revolt from those two.

ATL will win the combined 2017+2018 table.

LAFC will win the USOC.

The league is scripted, or at least preferential treatment for the teams that the league office wants to show to grow the game.

Who will win MLS Cup? Because is those 2 things happen and either LAFC or ATL win it, then NYC most probably goes to CCL with matches to be played at YS next season.

I won't go as far as to say it's scripted, but I will go so far as to say there's definitely something up with the refs and the treatment of certain teams. NYCFC will always win juuuuust enough to look really really good, but won't be enough to win anything because of Yankee Stadium.

On another note, LAFC looking reaaaaaally good so far, gives me lots of hope for the rest of this game.

Red Bull’s should have had a penalty. It was a better case than Martinez yesterday.

OTOH the goal they scored was pretty lucky. LAFC keeer gives up a rebound that avoids 3 defenders and it falls literally to the feet of Royer who is prone on the grass and he kicks it lying down.

This was nothing really. Perfectly appropriate to say a team looks good early. Yesterday’s shout box jinx was epic, however.
XD I don't believe in jinxes, but that was incredible. The timing there was shocking. Just lately seems to me whenever I think something, the opposite happens. lol

I don’t either, but I do try to avoid saying anything that could lead to an unfortunate coincidence because it just opens you to abuse. And yes, it was probably less than 15 seconds between your comment and the goal.

Tyler Miller of LAFC coughs up a cross and Royer scores. 1-0 NJ

Rossi gets himself the equalizer 1-1.

BWP is somehow onside on a through ball (I didn't go to video review), and slides the ball across to Royer. 2-1 NJ

NYCFC is now 3rd in the table with NJ having a game in hand. Level on points, behind on wins (and GD).

That tie to Vancouver is really kicking us in the ass right now.

Given NYCFC’s road form, they need to be lights out at home to have any chance of finishing 1-2. That’s probably not happening.

More likely is a 3 seed, winning a knockout game, and then getting close but not enough against either ATL or RBNY. Too many injuries, too much crap finishing to be a championship level team. Don’t see that changing any time soon.
