So ATL had to play a mid-week match with most their starters to win the 1st ever Campeones Cup. Now they have to travel to Portland and play on short rest. I'm hoping for a loss.

PHI plays at a Chicago team who is on short rest, they just lost at Portland themselves. I think they get a win.

DCU travels to Vancouver. That's a long trip, but VAN sucks this season. I think they also get a win.

We play at Cincy and should win.

NJRB host NE. I'm hoping for a draw, but they will probably win.

If those results happen, the table should look like this by the end of the weekend:

PHI 48 pts, 27 played
DCU 42 pts, 27 played
ATL 42 pts, 26 played
NYC 41 pts, 24 played
NJRB 40 pts, 26 played
NE 34 pts, 26 played

ATL would be ahead of DCU in that scenario based on the first tiebreaker, wins.

I'm thinkin NE steal 3 points at RBA. They've been pretty unstoppable under ARena and have gone into the toughest fortresses in the league and taken points.

Depending on how Armas lines them up, I think NE give them a game and it ends up in a draw or NE win.

BC place is a tough place to play. DC is inconsistent. I could see a draw happening.

Philly is also inconsistent on the road but I agree, I think they'll beat chicago.

Portland - ATL should be an interesting game. Hoping for a Timbers win here for sure. They are trying to make the playoffs, so I'm sure they will be giving their all in front of their home fans.

Quite wrong on these.

Chicago wins 2-0 vs. Philadelphia.

Vancouver wins 1-0 vs. DC.

NJ and NE draw 1-1.

That Chicago win over Philly was the biggest surprise and the best result for us of the three. We are now back on top in PPG - pending the outcome with Atlanta.

ATL is looking a lot like they did last year... if this result continues they'll be 1st in the east...

I really think the key to beating ATL is to eliminate the gressel/martinez combo.

it's easy to see that the successful teams in this league are the ones who have a lot of off the ball movement. When we play our best, we have a lot of off the ball movement, but if we get lazy at all, we completely fall apart. it's easy to play short pass game when there are options... but we haven't been providing options in the last string of games.

Yep. Between their games against us, against Club America, and last night, they are looking really good. I am guessing that FDB has finally gotten the team playing the way he wants and they are kicking it up a notch.

In other words, you need to be really strong on the left end of your defense. I guess that rules us out...

You mean, playing like last year under Tata Martino?

He’s also playing their starters every match i a congested schedule. I don’t see how they don’t wear out by the playoffs. Also, their road record is terrible. Can’t wait to play them at YS and I think the key is NYC securing home field for the playoffs and not have to return to their turf.

The hype machine has already determined that the final is going to be LAFC - ATL from the reaction from Atlanta moving to the top of the conference after their win last night.

If they do finish first and get every game in their stadium (and on that turf), it’s over.

Escobar is an every game starter and rested last night. Meram, Barco and Guzan played a combined 25 minutes Wednesday against CA.

ATL are def. playing more like they did under tata, but also differently. Josef, Pity, and Barco all work together to really confuse the defense, which is the biggest thing working for them. Add to that, Merem and Gressel being constant, pacey threats on the wings, and Nagbe keeping control of the midfield, the only real way to control them is to keep possession and be wary to defend the counter when we lose it.

Their defense is scrappy but effective. When we play them again at YS, we must keep possession and be patient. We can defend a handful of counter attacks.. but back and forth like the game in ATL.. we can't keep up with them. They're too fast all around.

I'd love to know how they handle that with the NFL. Playoff games are all on weekends, and the Falcons have home games on the 20th and 27th.

Do they need to do anything to the field besides re-draw the lines? MLS playoff match Saturday, NFL games Sunday. Endzones stay put and soccer played with hashmarks on field & a giant falcon logo in the center (MLS 1.0 style).
