Rooting for Minnesota in the Open Cup Final but its kinda depressing to know they have won a trophy before us if they do.

I doubt it though.

Nah. ATL has maybe become our biggest rival (reg season battles, knocked us out playoffs), but the hate isn’t the same as NJ. So I’m rooting for them. It would really increase our chances of CCL 2020 if they did.

You never know. If Minnesota plays well and Quintero, Rodriguez and Finlay are on their game, it will be an exciting match to watch. As good as ATL can be, they can also have off games. They showed this vs Orlando where Orlando's horrendous finishing and Josef's goal saved them from dropping points. Orlando dominated ATL for most of that game and should have easily won. Minnesota can do the same, though it will be a lot tougher at the Benz on turf, which is their biggest disadvantage.

ATL is basically unstoppable at home. Which is why I want them winning USOC if they get #1 or #2 seed in east.

This is a very good point - one that I was thinking about yesterday. We really need a 2020 CCL thread to go through all the possibilities. If Atlanta win tonight then we make CCL by finishing first in the East or by finishing second in the East behind Atlanta and ahead of the 2nd place West team.

As long as we don't slump, and the team this year seems pretty stable and not slumpy, we're easily gonna finish second in the east and above the western conference. We're one less game than them and 4 points ahead

If there is a double or triple qualification (LAFC winning West/MLS Cup, ATL winning East/USOC/MLS Cup), the extra spot/spots are awarded to the next in line in the SS standings to a team not already qualified. If ATL wins the East & USOC, then the next 2 spots in the SS get in. That almost assures us of a spot if we don't have a late season collapse.

Right now:
West: LAFC
East: ATL/NYCFC/PHI
USOC: ATL/MIN
MLS CUP: ?

I think we were saying the same thing.

If NYC finishes 2nd in the East but ahead of the 2nd place West team, then we are highest among non-qualifiers in Supporters Shield and next in line if there is a double qualification.

adam's also saying we could potentially get in if we are in 3rd as well if ATL win the double

It's the only thing they didn't win in MLS at this point.

and they won't get it this year either! (unless LAFC fall apart). kinda sucks cause LAFC and ATL will basically be at full strength while a lot of teams will be short due to international duty.. NYCFC being probably one of the more handicapped during the international break

Atlanta isn't playing during the International break. And they won't get SS this year, they'll just get CCL next. I don't hate them like other teams/supporters, but they sure as hell annoy the crap out of me.

J Lew helping us out even from CO. he was always pretty dangerous against them cause their back line can't handle pace very well (much like ours).
