MLS Week 30 - 2018

Why did you highlight Seattle v LA and Portland v Minnesota, phili loss at SKC etc? Are those just the remaining possible results?
No, the bolded were updates to the previous post. There were some other updates that resulted in deletions, so those couldn't necessarily be bolded.

How bout we just eliminate VAR. the correct call percentages are not improving. And it’s just creating chaos. Soccer chaos.
We need to make a few minor changes to VAR, as the MLS version sucks ass. There needs to be a central booth by which all reviews go to, so each situation is at least handled with the same bias/ruling. Having VAR only being reviewed by two individuals on site changes each decision game to game, which is starting to make VAR bring in too much soccer chaos. One ref thinks it's ball to hand, another hand to ball, and a third thinks nothing happened.

VAR was brought on to make the correct call in a quick moment. There re still improvements to be made, ESPECIALLY in the MLS. For the few that watch the Bundesliga, it's insane to see the difference between VAR here vs. VAR there. Calls are made in a fraction of the time, and are all sent to a central review hub so a team can review the play along with the ref creating consistent and accurate calls with minimal down time. It takes the ref 15-30 seconds to run over to the video screen itself. In that time, the Central squad has already seen the play 2-3 times and can give their input. Shaved 30 seconds to a minute of review time, which creates a lot less angst that occurs in a 5+ minute MLS VAR review.

PRO using VAR is just sucking ass and making VAR look more like a problem than a solution. Meh.

Two things on the whole VAR handball mess:

1. The only replay (supposedly there are “other replays” that the ref saw that we didn’t - hearing the MLS shills *cough Doyle cough* saying “we need to trust that there are better replays” - come on) was by no means clear nor obvious

2. San Jose had a similar handball shout when it hit an atlanta player - with the game tied 3-3 - and no VAR used.

Oh how I miss VAR at the World Cup.

Of course, when there isn't a Commissioner with an agenda to put one team into a continental tournament, VAR works properly.

But next year with Tata Martino, Almiron, Martinez, and maybe some other players sold, Atlanta is going to be a vastly different team in January. And I bet not all the parts are put together in time for the tournament.
