3-1 L. And that may be the last of NYCFC we see in 2020.

Why wasn't Maxi starting? Why wasn't Heber starting?

Portland defended well, played well on transition and took advantage of NYCFC’s defensive mistakes. WHAT A GOOD TEAM DOES.

Portland lives in NYCFC’s head.

chat closes too early, i want to bitch in there some more then have my bitching disappear like my affection for this club. now i gotta post it here and be reminded i hate our ownership group.

It was obvious from a few minutes in that Portland was going to score goals on counterattacks. Our defense was trash the whole match, but especially once fatigue set in. What has happened to Alex Ring?

Deila's starting lineup decisions, even taking injuries into account, were silly. If Isi is out, you put Medina at RW (if Taty can't take the spot because Hebér can't start for some reason), not GMS, for fuck's sake. And if Maxi can't start you HAVE to put Keaton in, as he seems to be the only other player we have who can progress the ball through midfield.

Portland knew they would own midfield, at least for most of the match, and they knew that if they could shut down the wings we'd have nothing. And that mostly worked.

Taty can't see the runs he should make. There were at least three or four times he could have made a run and opened up a passing opportunity and he just didn't.

Get this clown out of here, ragtag coaching staff, no ambition. Nobody was excited that he was coming and he hasn't inspired any change in the thought, only good moments came from when we just played like we used to. Our players stand still far too often before starting an attack. Do you notice that whenever someone gets the ball they turn away from goal, that didn't happen last year so I doubt it's all the players just happening to do that. Slows the attack and makes us predictable. We don't have a Celtic level talent gap that deilia can scape by on, get us someone who actually plays like our players like to play and succeed at. Why was maxi a quarterback with ring up front? The only good thing about Delia was the improvement of Medina but at the cost of the rest of the teams talent. I'm not ready to give this guy any more time to ruin this team

I mean listen, obviously we can focus on the defensive mistakes, of which Portland seemed to punish every single one, but my main question is about our attack. Why are we so predictable? When things aren't going well, we just seem to run out of ideas aside from give the ball to Matarrita, have him cross it, not win the cross, and rinse/repeat. Mata's a good offensive player, but why is he running our attack? And why is that our only idea for breaking teams down? We don't have a team that can win aerials, our only tall attacker flops every time he feels a breeze. What makes anyone think we're going to win that battle?

Hopefully only 3 weeks until the season resumes -- if it even does at all. MLB is proving that playing in home venues is incredibly tough in our country since our government doesn't seem to care to work on this pandemic, so who knows if MLS is even able to resume. Hopefully we'll get more soccer this season. If not, it was a very underwhelming tournament from NYCFC. We know it's within them, we're just not seeing it.

Ronnie still clueless. We have no creativity up front without maxi and heber. Medina should have finished his chances even if it was offsides. Shouldn't matter!

Ring is becoming more of a liability than Mata and that's saying something. Sands looked tired to me but he's been playing hard.

Oh well - now maxi and heber and isi can fully recover.

2021.. give Ronnie 6 games like Dome had and we'll see where this goes. I don't have much confidence. All we ever hear from him are excuses.

See you all next year!

What a letdown... the team just seemed to wilt late in the second half and couldn’t get their mojo back.
Portland smelled the fear or blood... whatever, they went to work.
NYCFC went limp in final third again. It drives me bananas that they look limp and predictable.
i think Mitrita missed a golden opportunity for a chance on net if HE PASSED rather than run right and loose the ball like he’s done a bajillion other times.
Oh well, no one is around anymore and I’m the old crazy guy on the corner...

It may not matter until 2021, but this team needs midfielders.

Maxi cannot be the only 10. Give Parks a chance or find someone.

Perhaps Ring is tired, but he was poor tonight and nothing of note all tournament. If Sands will be sold, need to give Acevedo a run and find another 6.

Medina has a decent tournament, but he will never be an engine for the team.

If there is a continued season, I would prefer not to see Sands and Ring starting together again. The ball dies in the final third. Ring’s passing is erratic at best, and Sands for all his excellent defensive work is too willing to pass back or laterally.

This Portland team needed penalties to get past Cincinnati. Let that sink in.

Also, Portland literally decided “we’re just going to sit back the first 30 minutes and conserve energy” - knowing that Valeri was coming in at halftime (Gio said that was planned). Once Portland made a little bit of a push, tie game. Outcoached again.

Going to be a long rest of the season (if it happens).

This NYCFC team barely made it in. Let that sink in.

That was a tough watch. Even when we needed two goals it looked like we had no chance of finding even a single one. As much as I like Sands in midfield he needs to go back to CB until we have a replacement for Chanot. Acevedo and Parks playing Ring/Sands role when we move him back? We’re clueless upfront without Heber on the field.

I didn’t see much improvement with Heber on the field and that’s not a jab at Heber. When you say « we had no chance of finding one. »
It rings so true. They look like infants trying to fit a square block into The round hole Of a puzzle. Time after trime. Taty’s moon shot was the best chance all night.

Last nights game made me wonder if Alex Ring got COVID earlier this year and hasnt fully recovered. A dreadful performance to cap off a pretty lousy tournament. Pretty shocking stuff.

Also wondering if MLS is going to be back after the MLS is Back Tournament. Difficult to see how they can restart the season soon unless all the league games for the first month are in Philly, RBA and Foxboro for the Eastern Conference and Portland and Colorado for the Western Conference.

I hate to be the guy to pile on Ring, but there's just so much to not like about what he's been up to.

He's gotta stop giving away meaningless yellows. He picked up a dumb one out of frustration, after PRFC's first goal, where we were in no danger at all. Because of it, his hands were tied on that third goal.

On the second goal, he loses Valeri and gets caught in no man's land on two passes which Valeri made him pay for.

Something's off with him right now.

his hands were tied on that third goal.
That wasn't the problem. He didn't anticipate the cutback and give himself enough space to react, and then he just sort of half-heartedly flicked his foot at the ball when he got burned. After the cut inside he was too far from Polo to bring him down even if he wanted to. That whole goal came from poor defensive awareness and bad technique.
