#MLSisBack - July 20 - Miami (Postgame)

Not much to say.

Poor 90 minutes on offense and defense. 2 shots on goal? really? against MIAMI!? we were static and lacked any type of creativity going forward. parks played a decent game, but i think that was probably cause miami's midfield was too tired to chase him around.

we played meh on defense but did a good enough job containing pizarro, which was enough to keep miami from scoring.

isi with a good touch and finish. no stand outs for me. we have a lot of work to do and hope we somehow advance into the knockout rounds for experience and more games to get under the belt. but we'll probably get matched up with a high seed and get embarrassed... so

At least we won.

The less said about that game the better. What a terrible game of soccer.

man the team still doenst know what its doing and took a individual pass ( not a system planned pass) to make the difference. i still want to know why tf does nico not play. is he really not fit?

i was watching this in espn deportes channel and lol they were clowning both teams....basically saying both team suck and at one point in second half they were begging teams to show something cuz its all bad.

Only real stand out to me was Sands. Hands down MOTM for me.

Isi was really poor until that run and finish, which was excellent (his first touch probably the best from that sequence). That seemed to give him some confidence and his play to Mitrita a bit later that Mitri flubbed was great.

Parks on for Medina was a HUGE help, which isn't much of a shocker.

Don't understand why only 3 subs were used, and why the ones that were used came so late. Doesn't make sense to me. Also, didn't seem like we were gunning for a second goal at the end, which would have dramatically increased our chances of advancing. Those are huge questions for Ronny from me.

We still seemed slow on the ball, and perhaps not trusting the system yet, or understanding where the next pass should go. Hopefully that will come with more time under Deila.

I'm definitely not sold on Ronny yet, but perhaps a win gives the guys a little confidence and things can start to improve more.

Hopefully we can use momentum. If we're eliminated from the tournament we probably have at least another 4-6 weeks before we play again.

I know everyone wants to blame Deila... but I don’t place the blame on him for should for dumb fouls, lame passes, poor touch, lack of individual skill to shake a defender, poor pace, poor finishing...
Am I the only one who thinks this team looks slow? We are collectively half a step above Ramon Torres speed.
I also expected something better in the six minutes We were playing with a man advantage.

Columbus getting at least a point from Atlanta would be huge boost to our chances.

i think part of that stuff you list is because the team doesnt have a plan coming from coaches, so they try to overcompensate and leads to careless fouls bad passes. the first touch was always an issue for years in almost every player.

yup a CLB result and a NJ win over CIN would mean we only need one of the results on Thurs I previously mentioned. Really wish we got a 2nd goal vs MIA.

well ATL is not much concern as RB and Cin could just play for a draw and they'll both get in.... Cin might just go for that arrangement otherwise they are looking at elimination where as RB would need a lopsided loss.

In a normal tournament, I would agree - however, with these games counting towards a (theoretical) regular season, I suspect that teams will be more likely to push for wins. Not that NYCFC has done anything to inspire confidence in Florida, but the nature of this particular tournament could lead to more 3 point teams making the knockout stages.

ah yea i forgot this goes for standing points as well..... so weird. So after the group stages that's just for glory? Or do you get some points there too?

knockout stages are purely for glory, prize money and CCL spot.

they do not count toward league standings. so as of right now, we are bottom of the table being propped up by miami.

Would definitely not be surprised for some teams (like us) to prefer not to play in the knockouts.

just watche some highlights of our play from last year... we had options for passes no matter who the ball went to. there was always at least one option, but usually two. we would go forward in unison with a fluid transition that resembled a wave building and preparing to crash on the opponent's goal. what an incredible difference to how we are playing now.

is playing in the FL heat that bad? is playing at 9am that bad? is being off for so long that much of a factor? is it all three and more? I sincerely hope our team comes back. Watching them play, sans playoffs, last year was a joy. so far this year, i just want to throw my TV out the window.
