#MLSisBack - July 20 - Miami (Postgame)

just watche some highlights of our play from last year... we had options for passes no matter who the ball went to. there was always at least one option, but usually two. we would go forward in unison with a fluid transition that resembled a wave building and preparing to crash on the opponent's goal. what an incredible difference to how we are playing now.

is playing in the FL heat that bad? is playing at 9am that bad? is being off for so long that much of a factor? is it all three and more? I sincerely hope our team comes back. Watching them play, sans playoffs, last year was a joy. so far this year, i just want to throw my TV out the window.
Those may have impacts to it, its also possibly due to still not yet being comfortable with Deila's system. The same players weren't comfortable with Dome's system until perhaps a quarter-way through last season. Hopefully time and repetition will help cure these things.

Yeah. People here talking about "the beginning of Dome's tenure at least had structure" - yet I disctinctly remember people saying it _didn't_ during the first few games we were bad and giving analyses as to why his system was a garbled mess. Hence why I agree with you

Yeah. I'm not sure I would say it had structure, but it had principles for sure. It just took time for those principles to be instilled in the players' minds so they didn't have to think about it, it was more instinctual.

That may be the case here. I noticed several instances this morning where guys were slow on making the next pass after receiving, and I wonder if it's due to not completely understanding yet where everyone is.

I don't intend to come across as defending Deila, but just I think he needs more time before we can really tell. I do, however, have issues with his sub use in this game (came so late and only used 3 of them), as well as the team's lack of urgency to add another goal late (which I will also pin on Deila).

I distinctly remember one of the early season games under Dome at home vs MTL which I believe ended in a 0-0 tie where the team was utterly boring and held the ball endlessly without really going forward. Sounds familiar.

I found a photo of myself at that game with my arms crossed. Now my arms are usually crossed when at home games. But it like you said, arms crossed like what are we doing out there?

Home opener vs DC that ended 0-0 in a snoozefest beyond snoozeville

This was one of those games you watch through your fingers and then breathe a huge sigh of relief when we finally come away with it.

Lots of pretty sloppy and poor performances. Looks like we've really locked on to an early Dome tactic of "pass it about the back for a long time, then try to work it up a wing and just lose it."

Happy to have won, but not exactly looking forward to watching more of this. The Orlando game was brutal to watch and we lost. This was not great to watch and we won.....

Also - funny to see no singling out of GMS this game, when I spent a bunch of the time he was on yelling at him to do more  . He truly looked like a Scotsman in Florida heat from the moment he came on. Someone mentioned the team should have been pressing more for a second goal at the end - I agree with that, but also when we were defending, it was frustrating to watch 9 guys run back in formation to protect the goal, while one third of our attack just jogs back, leaving a massive gap...

Anywho, overall 3.5/10, must do better

Anyone else catch Moreno’s comments about Ronny being “Too rigid“ in the pregame conference. Moreno was generally terrible (Tinner got steamrolled TWICE and he chided Him for “embellishing”) but the Ronny comment jibes with how the team looked. Too much stasis and not enough fluid motion off the ball. Especially on the right side.

...and BTW, I have not seen an MLS team play as sloppily as Miami did in the past 5 years. Banging passes into touch, unforced errors galore. God they were abject. If we couldn’t beat these guys...

Moreno is kind of a schmuck but at the moment I would tend to agree with him about Rigid Ronny...
RE: Tinerholm, he seemed to be OK with the Red an Agudelo because "he had a five yards" of momentum or whatever.
I remember one "embellishment" comment that annoyed me. I felt the Miami dudes were putting their forearms up into the neck/head area.
That does not seem like that should be okay at all.

Yeah, I thought both times Tinnerholm went down on those corners was pretty legit and I didn't really see much embellishment. Unless you wanna call Tinnerholm rubbing his neck so much after the first one to perhaps accentuate that there was contact there, but that's immaterial. Now, on the Figal yellow, Tinnerholm definitely did his part at riling Figal up a bit before the corner was taken that likely led to the aggression showed there, but I don't think Tinny embellished the contact at all (though he does embellish a decent amount).

The Callens one on the other hand.....that was pretty bad.

so how many more disciplinary points do we need from Chicago now?
By my count 29.

CHI Game 1 10 fouls 1 yellow Game 2 23 fouls 5 yellows = 33 fouls + 6 (*3) yellows =51
NYC Game 1 9 fouls 1 yellow Game 2 12 fouls 3 yellow Game 3 21 fouls 3 yellows = 42 fouls + 7 (*3) yellows + 16 for Taty & Callens embellishment =79

(Edit: I missed the news of the Callens embellishment fine).

Strange that embellishment would count for 8 points if discovered after the fact, but only 3 points if discovered in game and a yellow is awarded. We are being charged 10 extra points because the refs are bad.
I will say that that is our current interpretation of supplemental discipline. I don't think I've seen from MLS exactly what it means.

It is possible that supplemental discipline is extra games tacked on in suspension. Think of a red card being given and then DisCo reviews and decides to add another 1-2 games on.

Update on this: Crooks is reporting there is a 26 point difference between us and Chicago. I reached out to him and he said that was something the league provided him.
