#MLSisBack - July 9 - Philadelphia (Postgame)

screw this season.

it'll always be an asterisk in my book.

just a thought - last year 5 draws and 1 embarrassment to start the season.
this year - 6 games til we score our first goal.

then things will start clicking. and we'll somehow end up top 2 in the east and mata will destroy our playoff hopes again. he gets sold to a team in costa rica never to be heard from again.

the tactics i think....hes still messing with formations ( two up front) and maxi felt like he is not in CAM in the second half

I thought we were really good all things considered. Dominated the game. Blake's a damn good goalie. Felt like a little bit of rust in finishing and some bad luck. If we play like that against Orlando and [whoever we play third after Nashville gets booted], I think we'll be fine.

Bah. Frustrating.

Now, get some work in, and then watch Spurs lose 1-0 to Bournemouth haha

I was confused about what shape Delia wanted ever since Medina replaced Parks. Partially that's because until now Medina has been a winger, but I guess now he can be deployed as a wide mid as well.

Not a good game from either side TBH, much of what I expected with it being the first real game back and neither side really having anything of a preseason to get match fitness in. This one's on SJ and GMS, letting in a soft goal and not finishing the 1v1 to grab a point. Tough, but is what it is. Philly took their half chance and we couldn't finish any of ours.

In my opinion, I think Ronny should've subbed in more people earlier in the match. First game back for everyone and he only has one sub until the 75th minute? I would've had Thor come on earlier for Mata, who looked gassed.

Some moments of brilliance here and there, nice to see. Heber would probably finish his chance mid-season, but Blake did well to push it wide. Zelalem looked decent in a few of his touches and 1-2s. Medina didn't do too much coming on for Parks. I have a feeling Maxi's wheels are possibly coming off this year, which is a big loss. Sands looked good at CB alongside Callens.

Hopefully we can score a goal this tournament.

Felt a lot like the early games last season - lots of chances, lots of possession, not much cutting edge. We were very unlucky not to win the game. I like our chances in the next two games on that showing, especially if Mitrita is back.

Compared to Dome-ball, I can't believe how much time the ball spends in the air under Deila. Can't say I'm a fan.

I think Deila is going to use GMS a lot this season, so I think his form will have an outsize impact on our fortunes. Thought he looked lively, but he's clearly not the best finisher at the club.

I think we may have seen the last of Maxime Chanot.

Because of sands?

Yeah, I feel like the argument for not playing Sands was that Chanot and Callens are the best partnership for a CB pairing, and that Sands should only really play in the midfield or as part of a back three. But he did great in a back four today. Can't say we missed Chanot at all.

If I were running a ref clinic, I could not find a better visual demonstration of obstruction/impeding than what Aaronson did to Taty. He literally bowled him over, which opened up space for Bedoya.

Am I off the mark on this? It seemed so blatant and neither broadcaster even mentioned it.

i mentioned this in the chat as it happened. would be nice to know what VAR thought of that. seemed like an off the ball foul to me.
