For general movie talk and recommendations.

Supporting our team across the pond - went to see Manchester By the Sea today. Surprisingly, there was no soccer in that movie. Recommended if you want a thoroughly depressing experience.

Side note. A noon movie on a Tuesday draws a crowd with an average age of 103.

Shouldn't this thread be in the "Off Topic" section?

And the Manchester they're referring to is in Massachusetts. You really though an Affleck movie would take place in England?

Yes it should.

Went to see The Girl on the Train at the cinema a couple of weeks back. Really great film. Also watched The Green Lantern when it was on TV here yesterday. I knew it was going to be bad, but I like watching bad films. That was almost a film too far though. There are very few films I actively will stop watching once I've started, but that one came close. It was funny-bad for a while and then it just got dull-bad.

Saw Arrival a week or so ago. Incredible movie, thoughtful science fiction, loved it.

Favorite movie: 2001.
Will watch any of the Bourne movies anytime they come on TV even though I own them.
Can't wait for the new Star Wars movie next week.

Watching films? You should limit yourself to movies if you want entertainment.

Do you really not know me by now?

I thought that was obvious enough that no sarcasm font was needed. Guess not.

Waiting for La La Land to open nation wide on Friday. It's going to sweep at the Oscars.

Ah yeah, Arrival was good. Almost forgot I saw that - I was off work a couple of weeks back and I was bored so I kind of went "why not?" and saw two films at the cinema consecutively. Girl on the Train was the second, and so I remembered it better, but they were both good.

As it happens I'm also off work on Thursday, burning a bit of annual leave before I lose it at the end of the year, so I'll most likely go to see Rogue One on its release day. I'll let you know how I find it.

Saw the big magic related blockbusters currently playing in the last few weeks. Liked Doctor Strange a lot probably put it below the first Iron Man and Captain America Winter Solider as far as solo Marvel movies go but it might be third. Fantastic Beasts was OK but I didn't really come away feeling as if I'd really needed to see it in the theater.

Yup, seeing it Thursday night with a reserved seat. And unrelatedly, I'm off the week after, for the same reason.

Forgot to say. I saw Rogue One on Friday. Amazing film, far better than Ep 7 in my opinion. The last half an hour or so of film was just a perfect sequence and the ending - while it's probably going to split opinion - was handled exactly as it should have been if you were to ask me. Just a great film in every single way.

The people I know who live in Manchester By the Sea have a nine figure net worth, and live in a $10+mn house that includes a large private section of Singing Beach.

I've been there several times. I had no idea that town has the type of hardscrabble people I've seen in the previews.

To me the title is similar to "Greenwich, CT" and that doesn't fit with what I think the movie is about.

I once dated a girl from Manchester, Mass, and she went out of her way to point out that she wasn't from the part of town that is wealthy - not that I had any idea about any of that.

This is a movie I really want to see. I loved Kenny Lonergan's first film, You Can Count on Me. It was brilliant. I still haven't seen his long lost masterpiece, Margaret, although it is at least now available.
