Sister flew up to visit me and I took a 4 day weekend.
We’ve been here all day today and hit most of ge monuments. Doing the museums tomorrow.
Anywhere you guys recommend outside of the norm? It’s supoosed to snow overnight and all day tomorrow but our hotel is located a few blocks from whitehouse and we’re walking distance to just about anywhere.

This is my first break since moving up to Virginia. Opened up 8 stores and it’s just been nuts. Sorry for my absence.

Sorry I have no recommendations having only been in the city for a nanosecond. Have a wonderful time! You deserve some fun.

Union Market might be a bit far, but it's a great spot to find a bite to eat (gotta try to Arepa spot in there).

Smithsonian is extremely touristy but extremely interesting. I wouldn't any if the other typical DC things. Just walk around the city and find things to do. That's the best way to enjoy a new city IMO.

I'm biased since I work there, but the National Zoo is nice, and right now they have ZooLights going on after dark.

The National Tree can be seen near the White House

I assume the museums means the Smithsonians, as they should always been on the list. Natural History, American History and Air and Space are my favorites, but really can't go wrong with any of them.

Not a Smithsonian, so not free, but the Spy Museum is pretty cool also.

Random, obscure attraction? If you are a horror movie fan, the stairway from the Exorcist is in Georgetown

Possibly a little bit too late for this visit but I'd like to mention the National Building Museum. I've been to DC a billion times and had never heard of it before the last time I was there so perhaps a little off the beaten track. Also, not part of the Smithsonian so there's a charge but if you're into architecture/infrastructure it's totally worth it. First of all the building itself is amazing (and you can go in and check it out for no charge). Then they also have interesting exhibitions, usually about things you never thought of and how they affected things historically. Not gigantic so you won't spend the day there but really interesting. Also, it's pretty near everything else, so not out of the way.

Other recommendations: Smithsonian National Postal Museum (interesting in a Postal sort of way), DAR Museum (Yes, that's the Daughters of the American Revolution. It's a little weird but it's also an interesting museum.), and the National Archives (the original Constitution, Declaration, Bill of Rights, etc.).

If you like Indian food in trendy settings, and you will if you go here, hit up Rasika.

https://www.rasikarestaurant.com/

It's just really, really freaking good food. I used to go there at least once a week when I was in a consulting gig there. Bartenders also understand a buyback, always a plus.

Also, the Newseum thing is kind of cool.

I used to live in the area before moving to NYC. My favorite burger place in all the land is Ray's Hellburger in Arlington. You wont be disappointed.
