New England (Home) - Postmatch

The 4-3-3 to 3-4-2-1 to 4-2-2-2 to 4-1-4-1 was spectacular. Especially given how deep they were sitting. I can't hate on Taty when he's 1 v 3.

Taking a man off the back at half and going 3-4-2-1 made a lot of sense. The narrowness of the 4-2-2-2 was incredibly effective at opening up space for Tinny to run into and eventually led to the goal. Then the 4-1-4-1 to isolate Mitri was key.

Hats off to Dome.

Only blemish really was Gaz, who seems to be very down on himself. I have to believe he's nowhere near his peak because his touch was abominable and we've seen how technical he can be. Ibe also looked vulnerable.

Referee Inquiry of the Day: The referee blows the whistle and awards a free kick to New England after Anton Tinnerholm allegedly used his arm to deflect the ball out of bounds towards the endline after a New England cross. The players protest. The referee waits, he then cancels out the yellow card and awards New England a corner kick.

This wasn't a Goal, Red Card Incident (maybe?), Mistaken Identity, or Penalty (couldn't have been since the referee awarded a free kick based on the placement, not penalty kick). So video review couldn't have been used.

The referee may have been able to consult with the 4th official, ARs, to overturn the call. Quite odd. But it was clearly, not a handball by Tinnerholm.

Also, we need Department of Homeland Security to deny Maxime Chanot from leaving the country. Because I don't know how a backline of Seb-Sweat stands a chance vs. any MLS offense.

The way I saw it was it got looked at because it was close to being a penalty (or at least, a potential one, if he had actually used his hand). The ref got involved because of that possibility. By the time they realised that it was clearly not in the box, they had got distracted with the wider issue of whether it was actually a handball in the first place.

Pure speculation of course.

Anyone else surprised that Ben actually wasn’t the worst player on the pitch?
Like, he had an all around okay game. Happy for the guy.
GMS however, yikes what a stinker.
He (Ben) was a great save away from winning the game on a golazo which would have been the second most unlikely way to win behind only a Medina PK.

COuldn't have put it better myself. Dome's tactics today were pure class and the ability of the players to execute was phenomenal. Hats off to them. There were a few blemishes today but only a few. Ibeagha falling asleep 2 minutes into the game and GMS just lacking confidence and it shows. We all know he's a confidence player, but you'd think after scoring in vancouver last week, he'd have stepped it up today. But not once did he take on a defender 1v1. Not once did he try to create a shot for himself out of nothing. He passed off or crossed every single time and is not the player he showed himself to be in his cameo performances earlier in the season. Not sure what's up with him, but he needs to find his confidence again because we're going to need him in the playoffs.

Medina the unlikely hero today. He came on and was the super sub. Honestly, I think the biggest difference in his play today and his other appearances earlier in the season was that his work ethic was superb. he was fighting for the ball and going into tackles where he used to shy away from them. Add to that he seemed to understand the formation and his role better, which made him look less like a chicken with its head cut off and more like the Medina of old. Can he suddenly find his form as we wind down the season and head into the playoffs? I've been down on him all season but if he put in stellar performances when called upon, he's yet another attacking threat for us. His finish on the 1st goal was brilliant and "Heber-esque". His calm PK was fantastic too. Obviously, Maxi couldn't take the pressure or was injured but to ask Medina... wow. that's confidence in a player down on his luck.

Taty worked hard and he was marked very tightly. He fulfilled his role really well I think, despite not having too many chances on goal. I think 1v1 dribbling is the weakest part of his game, but overall i think he played well.

Our defense did relatively well aside from falling asleep early. It is not encouraging to watch Bou/Gil pass around us like we're training cones or Agudelo dribbling around like he owns the place. But, overall, we played pretty well on D.

Credit to the Revs for being extremely disciplined on defense. They broke up more chances than I could keep count and kept themselves in the game. Yea, our finishing could have been more clinical but revs defense were just really good today.

Parks got away with two bad mistakes today. One was just a pure "whoops" and the second could have been avoided. Glad they were not punished. He had a great game. I quite like him dropping deep to collect the ball and distribute, allowing Maxi free to roam as he pleases.

we were a man up, but Revs sure didn't play like they were down a man. Credit to them and glad our guys were able to pull off 3 points, sending us top of the table. I fear for TFC on wednesday without Chanot though. Ibeagha/Miller combo is kinda terrifying to think about.

also: just watched the very short highlights... (why so short?) and for medina's PK, we are lucky it didn't get called back for encroachment from Mitri and Taty. They take off way before the kick...

As an aside, all the other MLS matches today are on ESPN+. Was ours not? I would have watched there instead to escape the barrel-bottom commentating and Univision's penchant for showing long replays while the fucking ball is in play.
ESPN+ does not show national games, and if you're in the NY area, you would be blacked out if it were on ESPN+.

Why did it seem like Medina's first celebration was an FU to the supporters?
Totally thought this on both goals.

This is NOT a critique of him. For all the criticism he's taken I don't blame him throwing a bit of shade.

And yes to ...
Regardless of what we think of Medina, it's clear that his teammates love him. They were ecstatic for him.
If his teammates don't like him, he doesn't get that pk either.

I just watched Arena's post game presser... lol. the guy couldnt just answer questions like a professional. it was just snarky remarks and basically just letting the reporters answer their own questions. he's obviously upset with the red card. he didn't mention anything about the PK and not sure anybody can really say it wasn't one. I think the red was soft because it wasn't given for the violent foul, but for dogso. taty wasn't exactly in on goal... so that red probably should have stayed a yellow. that being said, the ref was completely all over the place today and the major calls that influenced the game just happened to go in our favor. i'll take it ... considering we've been screwed so often by refs in this league.

overall - MLS refs have got to be the worst in the world. I swear there are youth or rec league refs who are better.

adam adam Based on your sheet. Maxi had 4 YCs then 2 reductions, picked up 1 YC, and now 1 YC. So he's at 4 and will not be suspended vs. Toronto.

Dome said in his post game presser Maxi will be suspended for TFC... so someone has the incorrect info? question is who...
