New Jersey (Away) - Postmatch

I'd be interested to see if Kelly is suspended from his next match assignment much like Unkel was after he botched the call in the columbus game that led to a goal. This is the same thing. If i were Unkel and Kelly were not punished, I'd be pretty upset.

Red Bulls have posted their behind the scenes video. In their footage of the second goal. They show Callens kicking the ball, Muyl asking for the ball, then the throw in. They don't show any footage of AR1 Corey Rockwell pointing to the corner flag.

We were robbed of point(s) in Harrison, NJ thanks to a cowardly refereeing crew. Alan Kelly and Corey Rockwell are both at fault here. If the points from this match end up deciding key playoff placement, I will be beyond the livid point I am currently residing.

This just adds to the firm belief that I hold that until NYCFC has a soccer specific stadium, the league/PRO is rigged against us.

- Everything Allen Chapman has done.
- Callens "elbow" vs. Columbus in the playoffs.
- Ofori red card on a natural movement of the leg vs. Red Bulls in the 12 v 9 match ended in 1 - 1 win.
- David Villa "fouling" Josef Martinez during a bicycle kick when Martinez runs into Villa in the playoffs.
- #ThrowInGate.

There's not a bias, MLS refs are just incompetent.

Lion, the narrative this year is for LAFC to win everything, much like it was for Atlanta last year. LAFC probably won’t need much help to do this, but that’s what MLS wants to happen.

Two recent expansion teams with new stadiums winning? Validates the MLS expansion model.

I’m convinced NYCFC will not win a trophy until NYCFC has its own stadium. So yearssssss folks.

Oh, it's definitely not because LAFC has a ridiculously good team, or anything.

...Also, for the same thing you have:
NYCFC, Orlando, Minnesota, Cincinatti who has been horrific in their (at least) 1st year onwards.. NYCFC being the only one to make the playoffs and yet still not get too far after that.
MLS expansion model validation? Two out of 6. great numbers.

Yea I don't think there's any conspiracy to get lafc the cup. They're just a good side with a good coach and play the beautiful game the way it's meant to be played.

Our biggest limitation might just be out field though. We are forced to play half our games on a small field then transition to larger fields on the road. While they may be used to it by now, the size difference definitely effects our play style, I think. We're more compact at home and spread much wider on normal sized fields.

I think we've improved a lot in our road performance but we still need more creative options to break high presses and teams who park the bus. We have yet to break down any team who Parks the bus against us. Man city can do it cause they have the likes of Sterling, aguero, Sane, etc to break through and create chaos on the dribble. Other than isi, we simply don't have that reliable option. Mitri has potential but he's best in open space rather than 1v1 from a complete stop. Hoping GMS can fill that role for us as well.

I've been thinking about this myself. We generally do pretty well at home, and every time we win a home game the opposing fans complain we have too big an advantage. This year right now we're tied with LAG for second best Away PPG (LAFC is #1). I also suppose there is a possibility that we can do well at both home and away but that the need to constantly switch tactics and styles keep us from doing even better at both.

But as I also tend to do I looked up the numbers. Throw out 2015, and from 2016 to now NYC has the 4th most Home points and most Away points. I was rather surprised at how high both of those are. Combined, we have the second most points in MLS since PV took over to now.

Did anyone expect this? I'm shocked. More than Seattle, Toronto, Dallas, Portland, everyone but our friends across the river (who, btw, have 13 pts more than us which is a pretty huge gap). Call it a dubious achievement but the consistent class of regular season MLS for 3.5 years have been the Hudson River Derby rivals.* RB are #1 in Home points and #4 Away in that period, which is the inverse of NYCFC.

Anyways, I have trouble believing we'd do even better if we had a more standard sized field. I can't say it's impossible, but I can't help figuring that our road record would be worse if our oddly sized home field were causing so many problems.

* Sure, LAFC and Atlanta are effectively excluded from this cohort because of the time period, but so it goes.

This is good stuff.

No, I am not terribly shocked at our high point totals since 2016. We finished 4th in the table in 2016, 2nd in 2017 and 7th in 2018, and we are in 6th this year in PPG. In a league that has a lot of parity, with teams having lots of off years, that is terrific consistency.

It's probably also worth noting that LAFC and Atlanta aren't really part of the debate since they joined after 2016. They might place above us on PPG over the span.
