The only way to resolve this is either:

1) Changing of points
2) NYCFC is awarded a goal in the next match vs Red Bulls
And a public whipping of the referee team at halftime. Barring that, I’m actually pretty happy that they didn’t try to maintain the lie. It was clear Kelly had a brain fart and didn’t know how to fix it. Saying he verbally communicated it was clearly horseshit.

This is about as good as it's going to get. Kelly might still get suspended (or not), but it didn't make sense for people to get upset that he worked on Wednesday night. MLS was never going to move that fast.

He's right, VAR couldn't have been used here.
...Except, his reasoning is stupid. "If VAR could do this for every throw-in, etc. then the game would take too long." Yes, you're right. But why doesn't a throw-in on the attacking side of a team's play not count as part of the 'attacking phase of play'???? That's literally the start of an attacking phase of play- regardless of if it's a corner or throw-in. Therefore, if a play from one of those scenarios goes into the net, it should be reviewable.

I'm glad they admitted their cock up though it doesn't really do us any good. I normally shake a loss off very quickly these days and move on to other non sports related interests but I've actually been dwelling on this one all week like I haven't done since I was much younger. Ready for tomorrow night to wipe the taste out of my mouth.

Of course it would take too long to review every throw in. But this is one where a goal was scored directly as a result of this throw in - about 2 seconds later. If you can roll back the tape for a potential foul in the “attacking phase” halfway down the field you should review this. Common sense, duh!
