Haven't been this angry about a sporting event in a long time.

We outclassed them SO BADLY in the first half. No idea how we did't get a second or third. The PK was legit but still so against the run of play they never deserved to get to the half 1-1.

Not sure if it was a tactical change or us running out of gas but we were shit for most of the second half.

Nothing I can really add to how BS the "Game winning" goal was.

Add me to those impressed with GMS in his short time made a couple good passes. To bad he couldn't have got off to the dream start with the equalizer but considering how short of a time he was on the field and getting his legs under him etc can't be mad at him for not finishing that.

GMS being a true left winger gives us the option of playing an inside LB. At this point I have nfi who I prefer out of Mata and Sweat. Mata looked good as an inside LB against LAFC very early in the season. Maybe Rocha with his positional discipline and solidity on the ball, though.

If players suck they get let go, if coaches suck they get fired. If ref sucks bad they ref again in a couple of weeks. Fucking send them to usl2 for a month to polish their fucking decisions.

I like how we were able to play in NJ. This game demonstrated to me that we are a better and deeper team than the RB, especially if our injury luck improves. I can’t even talk about the other stuff, just way too annoying and embarrassing.

They apparently are claiming Alan Kelly overruled the AR. Watch the goal and the response from Kelly again. That's not what happened. It looked Kelly didn't know what the AR called until after the goal was scored, then they were in a pickle. The AR wasn't looking when the throw-in happened so he didn't stop it, Kelly didn't realize what the call was, then there's a goal, and how do you take a goal off the board?

They're going to claim Kelly overruled, but that's complete BS. Not a chance that happened live on the field. That's just them covering their asses. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Only in a Derby does crap like that happen. It's maddening.

As for the team, Matarrita as usual. Doesn't think out there, he's just a jitterbug. Brutal giveaway leading to the PK.

I thought the team played so hard, to have it ruined by a moment of madness from Matarrita and a moment of stupidity from the referee is frustrating.

Really proud of how the team fought today despite all the miles in their legs. Can't believe how we bossed the first 45 minutes, it really should have been 3-0 at the break. Obviously ran out of gas in the 2nd half, but it would have been impossible not to.

True but I don't know if it was material. The team seemed fired up without losing focus necessarily. Maybe should have switched to 4-3-3 earlier.

I just don’t understand how the ref wouldn’t reverse that after the linesman said he called a corner. How was the ref even in position to overrule that? That was one of the worst decisions I’ve seen in a long time. I went into this game with low expectations and now it has me as mad as any game we’ve played against them.

Red Bulls were completely outplayed the entire first half, so they pull a dogshit penalty that drew them level - then the refs bent NYCFC over and finished the job with the second goal - and fuck the commentators for saying that the second goal was still NYCFC's fault because they should have been ready when the ball was in play -- as you literally watch Callens meander into the box (with his back turned) expecting time to set up for a corner

First half was maybe the best 45 mins in the last 2 years. Chanot is awesome, but seems like he makes one terrible mistake every single game, this time causing the penalty, for no good reason. And we need an LB instead of bringing more and more wingers - Mata and Sweat will not do it. O, and that was the worst call I’ve ever seen in 35 years of watching football.

Agree with just about all of the above. We deserved better than 1-1 at the half, but the PK was a legit call.
They outplayed us in the second half.
The corner/throw in fiasco was absurd. I rewatched the sequence and the long convo between Kelly and the AR after the fact is not consistent with the official explanation that Kelly had overruled the AR. Looks like Kelly was getting an explanation from the AR. As best as I can tell, the AR made inconsistent signals and Kelly covered for him. But we completely lost it afterwards when we should have kept it together. Heber came sooo close to pulling back the draw near the end.
I did like the sauce after the game. That's when you can lose it and not have it hurt you (as long as you don't go all f-bombs and get suspended). Johnson did the best job of passionately arguing without going nuts.
Domé will win infinite goodwill with NYCFC fans if he handles his postgame presser correctly and smartly but passionately goes after the officials.
