New Jersey (Home) - Postmatch

The replay clearly showed forearm shove to Maxi’s back, not simply a hand-check, and the body movement into the shove was obvious. Armas arguing about that after the fact is poor form of a whiner.

yea - i watched his post game press conf. it was all whining. not classy at all. you could tell he was rattled by the loss.

The PK was clearly a foul. Was it a hacking, hard foul? no. But it's a foul. Way more a foul than whatever you want to call Murillo's PK call vs DC.

It felt like a bunch of RB players were doing that forearm shove to the back all night and rarely getting called for it.

One egregious one was right at the end against Taty, and looked like it might have been in the box from my seat.

This may have been answered I haven’t had chance to read all.

For those watching on TV was it really the Red Bull broadcast team calling the game on espn?

Yes. In their defense though, they were rather impartial. A friend of mine at ESPN told me yesterday after I texted her to mock this at the start of the game that ESPN had one of their teams scheduled to do this game backed out late due to travel or personal conflicts or whatever. So they went with local guys with knowledge of the teams instead of forcing another duo to cram a bunch of prep and travel in so little time. They probably couldn't get our guys due to other conflicts or simply Fox/ESPN restrictions.
They've done this before, as has Fox, but they typically only have one of the local teams guys working with an impartial partner.

Ah there goes my theory that espn didn’t care for the game to send a team out.

Edit: well at least there was minimal shep RB ass kissing

It was interesting that Maxi came over to Dome and said that Heber was done and needed to be pulled. He even made the neck slash gesture. Dome immediately called for the sub. It was the correct move in any event, but it was cool seeing Maxi taking part in the management of the game.

Just curious, it just shows how little espn thought about this game by not sending a team there. And honestly If they gonna be cheap like that might as well take the nycfc YES team not RB one.

On my list of things to worry about - that is slightly below having wine coolers at YS. Make them call a game they are losing - seems fine to me.

Yeah, habitual on their part. Was more of an open-hand shove at the end when Mitri drew the foul at the top of the box. Seemed like that was their go-to play when beaten by speed - try to knock us over.

You know what, that's a very reasonable reason for Steve and Shep to have gotten the game. Ian Joy was at FS1 doing Bundesliga coverage so he wasn't available had they asked.

For those more knowledgeable, can someone explain what the formation was on a heatmap?

Was it a 4-2-2-2? Maxi and Mitri as dual False 9s with Taty and Heber wide as forwards? That was a alluded to in the post game comments. Not sure how that works.

What you’re describing is a 4-2-4. The 4222 plays straight up the spine with only the outside back providing width. Obviously, the nuance is with the tactics and not the name, but that’s how they’re commonly used.

Armas needs to STFU about “going down easy” - I’m sure Murillo’s flop to get a penalty in the DC game was not “going down easy” at all...yeesh.

Also, everybody who has watched Maxi knows that he doesn’t go down easily, heck on this play he was assuming he was going to get shafted and kept playing; he knows how much he gets hacked and pushed with no calls.
