New Jersey (Home) - Postmatch

damn shame there isn't a single ref in MLS that I would feel comfortable being completely impartial, consistent, and reasonable in his calls. I thought Kelly was that guy, but he has forever tainted himself after #throwInGate.

MLS Refs are holding back the league at this point. If MLS has any clue, they'll demand better training for current refs and hire better ones.

I had quite a bit too many adult beverages Saturday evening, so need to give the game a rewatch before providing any real thoughts on it or whatnot. But based on what I do remember, and the highlights confirming for me, the only thing I have to add here that hasn't been brought up is actually kind of negative.

Sean Johnson really should have done better on that Muyl goal.

Other than that, boy was Saturday night sweet.

Oh come on, the guy was practically one on one with the keeper, and how many milliseconds did SJ have to prepare himself for a save, with only himself between the ball and the net?

It was a freak thing that he fell right where the boards were no one was intentionally trying to make anyone bleed, reaction seems ridiculous .

have not seen a replay but from supporters section behind goal i legit thought it was shoulder to shoulder and the force of bouncing off ring caused him to crash into the boards

Even if Ring did shove him, he isn't the reason his hands were bloody. RB CBs shoved us numerous times in the back in the same regard and got nothing called against them. Unfortunate for him that he scraped his hands on the video board, but don't be a bitch about a 50/50 challenge.

I'm not even mad that the RB announcers were the ones ESPN chose for the game, but the fact that their voices are the WORST and most monotone voices ever. Makes an exciting derby match sound like we're watching grandpa's play golf on a Sunday morning. Worst choice to have, from a neutral standpoint, when watching a big match like this one. One sounds like a homer that only knows/cares about baseball and the other sounds like he's been punched in the nose numerous times and hasn't gotten it fixed.

Not much to add on from what everyone else was saying. Mitri haters are silent on the boards tonight in what was easily his best match for us. He must've read the forums since he was both passing the ball and tracking back to make tackles :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:!! I just hope that he continues in the light and doesn't fall back on his lazier ways. Great display from him.

Let's just keep this momentum going. Keep our foot on the pedal and get points from our games in hand.

i love how team loyalty gives these guys selective memory. how many times were our guys checked FROM BEHIND and nothing was called? If any of them had been near the electronic boards, we'd have had some serious injuries. Ring v Muyl was clean shoulder to shoulder - even from the far end of the field I could see it clearly. It was unlucky that he went into the boards, but that stuff happens. I think the whole ad boards around the field are stupid. yea, it makes money, but all it takes is one bad tackle and it could end a player's season or worse, career. we aren't prepared to be checked into boards like hockey players.

The Instant Replay crew says the PK was a PK, and Mata's red was justified but Murillo also should have gotten one.

lol. if you watch this on youtube, red bulls fans are all over it saying "soft" or "no pen"... pretty hliarious how butt hurt they are.. where were they when murillo had his "no pen" called?

Yes. They are all trash. Very inconsistent. But I don't feel they were decisive in this game against RBNY. The penalty against Maxi was correct but relatively soft, and they could have not given it. The red against Mata was obvious but both Murillo and another RBNY player (Kaku?) who swipes a paw at an NYCFC player right before the Mata-Murillo scuffle begins could/should have been red carded too.

The right-side linesman allowed rough play, shoving, etc. much more than any other MLS linesman I can remember. They are just unreliable.

I will take the bait on Mitri. He had a great game, was energetic, great pass to Maxi, great free kick (similar to one he had in his 1st or 2nd match with us) etc. He played like a DP mostly. And it is also commendable that he chose the derby to wear his big-boy pants instead of abusing scrubs from Cincy or Colorado. But then around the 65th minute there is an attempt to unnecessarily dribble straight through traffic 10 yards from the edge of our own penalty area, gets dispossessed and somebody bails him out. It was a Matarrita-level bad decision. The day he stops doing ultra-dangerous shit like for no reason, then I will declare myself happy with him with no reservations.

One thing I noticed from the video is:
Mitri doesn't look happy throughout the entire video.
1) During the second goal, where is he?
2) When final whistle blows and everyone else is jumping up and down or clappinr or something, he's just sitting there staring. It looks to me like a "i wish that could have been me that made a difference today" look.
3) During the entire locker room scene, he isn't very mobile or excited.

yea i noticed that too. he's been like that in almost every video that's been posted. can't remember a single one where he's been super excited. maybe he's just not a big smiler? who knows. but this goes to the fact that maybe he doesn't quite feel at home with the club. we have the vikings hanging out and the south americans all buddying up. the americans all together. he's kind of isolated in that sense with no one to really relate to. i hope some of the guys recognize this and try to get him more involved.. spend time with him outside of training, etc. Happy players play better.

I just feel like this is reading too much into that video.

I will say this, though -- look at how absolutely pumped the team is after this game. I just love seeing how ridiculously excited they were to win this game. Love the passion in that locker room.
