New Jersey (Home) - Postmatch

One thing I noticed from the video is:
Mitri doesn't look happy throughout the entire video.
1) During the second goal, where is he?
2) When final whistle blows and everyone else is jumping up and down or clappinr or something, he's just sitting there staring. It looks to me like a "i wish that could have been me that made a difference today" look.
3) During the entire locker room scene, he isn't very mobile or excited.

I spotted the same when he scored the winner in Colorado in July. It seemed to come as a bit of a surprise to him that his team-mates came so eagerly to celebrate the goal with him, and he looks a bit embarrassed himself (there were plenty of the celebrations in the Behind the Scenes video). Perhaps he's just a bit of a loner, there's a good chance for every bunch of 20-30 young men to have one among them. And then there are players who don't celebrate goals as much as others. Jo Inge Berget seemed to just turn away as if scoring was just a routine he was expected to do (alas, it wasn't...!).

This is extremely Alex Ring and I love him for it.
“If I do that it might be a different result...”

What does Muyl mean by that? That Muyl would have seen red??? It was already a yellow, and a very questionable one as it stands.

Maybe Muyl meant if he had done it, he’s not enough of a man to actually send someone into the boards.

I will say this, though -- look at how absolutely pumped the team is after this game. I just love seeing how ridiculously excited they were to win this game. Love the passion in that locker room.
Dome too - that video shows him trying to pump up the crowd after the first goal and it was great to see him come down and celebrate by the supporters section after the game - don't think he does that very often if at all. Seems like it's normally just a few players that come over.

for the person who asked - medina is only seen in the lockeroom at the end. he's in the corner by mitri - still with his warmup gear on.

Mitri does celebrate his goals. he smiles and does the heart gesture with his hands while pointing to somewhere above homebase (at home) or to the crowd somewhere. maybe it's his family? He also did a big scream and ronaldo-esque celebration after his first goal at yankee stadium on his debut or second game (can't remember).

I mena, he is pepp's right hand man and we're really seeing it pay off now. He knows how to create chemistry. C:

Yeah, one thing we can say for sure is that Dome has got these guy gelling, trusting eachother and being close on and off the field. He's built a great team with great players and people, it seems, and we're seeing the fruit borne from that commitment.

This is exactly why I hope we keep the vast majority of our guys together for next season. I'm not sure what the contract situation is for everyone, but I know Maxi's expires after this season and I believe Chanot only signed a 1 year extension so he'd also be gone. Not entirely sure about everyone else.

If we can keep everyone together for a few years (as much as possible), we'll only get better. Only one I'd be happy to get rid of at this juncture is Medina to free up a DP slot. Everyone else is fine. Sweat and Miller fill their roles as backups and Rocha fills his role well too. He's actually had some pretty decent performances when he's played. Nothing standout or anything, but he gets the job done and that's his role.

Back on topic.... would be pretty exciting to match up with the red bulls again in the playoffs and beat them again. As it is, what ever happened to the Hudson River Derby trophy? is it not being awarded this year?

Website says they are purchasing the trophy in 2020.

Or is it the I don't like the club, I don't like NYC and I wanna go back at the end of the season homesick?

Mitri a little homesick. Ring and Tinny going out of their way to make him feel more comfortable, but he's homesick

The language barrier has to be isolating, in the interviews Mitri has given his english seems limited and I assume he doesn't speak spanish. I wonder at times when people are seeing him as removed in BHTS videos it's more of a language issue. It's hard to know how much english they speak but every interview I've seen from Mata, Maxi, Taty, and Callens has been in spanish. Dome has mentioned in interviews that he struggled to convey tactics in english early on. In the current attacking line the only person that gives interviews in english is Heber. Interviews are probably a bad proxy for language skills as players could speak english but just prefer to do interviews in spanish but assuming at least some of that core speaks limited english or at ] least assuming that in many instances their default is to speak spanish to each other on and off the field It has to be difficult for Mitri to build chemistry/relationships.

Reyna and others from the team have spoken about intentionally trying to form groups players from similar backgrounds so that people feel comfortable. I recall and interview with Reyna saying that Ring/Tinn/Berget all stick together and it gives them a support system that was intentional. I wonder what the team is doing to try to help Mitri. Many of us suspect that Pablo Alverez was on the roster year 1 in some ways to give Villa a friend he was comfortable with from the start. Villa also had a translator with him constantly until he learned english. Not saying Mitri is the same level of superstar as Villa but given the sizable fee we payed for him it seems like putting some things in place to help Mitri acclimate would be a priority.

I'm curious how intelligible Spanish is for Romanian native speakers.

According to Wikipedia it's 71% lexical similarity: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanian_language

FWIW I thought his English in the interviews was fairly solid ESL. To me he just seems like a really introverted dude and that's OK. At one of the last BTS he walks up to a guy carrying a gigantic Romanian flag in pitchside and there is almost zero interaction.

To me it's both hilarious how much we are speculating about his personality traits, yet also completely reasonable. I'm hoping we see more of the personality he showed against the RB. It was probably the first game he seemed to be behaving any more than perfunctorily.
