NFL Discussion

We'll see if "culture" and "familiarity" with the Mannings coach will pay off over picking the consensus choice.
The kid might work out for all I know. But since picking QBs is so non-scientific I can't support taking one at 6 unless he's a consensus can't-fail prospect, especially with another pick at 17 in the first round. Nobody else had this guy going before the second round at least.

He and/or Eli better deliver or some people are going to be out a job.

My Bills beat the Jets in an ugly game. I'll take week one win and 1-0 record anyway I can get it .

All being equal, I prefer to attend Mass on Saturday at 5pm. The Vikings playoff games starts today @ 4:35. If I go to the 5pm Mass I'm out by halftime and see second half. Worst case is I stay home, Vikings get blown out early and there's no point in watching (I'm happy to see a blow-out win) and I still need to go to Mass tomorrow. OTOH if amazing things happen in first half I have the DVR. Don't think I will decide until game time.

Here's hoping you watched the first half and not the second if you are a Vikings fan.

There's always next year (it is always next year...).

Chiefs- Texans today was bonkers. IT was the soccer equivalent of spotting the other team a 4-0 lead and the coming back to win 7-5 it was literally that nuts.

I just got an email from DirecTV notifying me that NFL Sunday Ticket Max will be free in 2020, for all customers. New ones, old ones, whatever.
They don't give any reason, like giving back because of the virus. It's just hey, this thing for which we used to raise the price by an ungodly amount every year? Now it's free. For a year, at least.
I'm very curious to learn what's driving it. Is DirecTV eating the cost to keep customers? They're even giving away the Max version, so they're not even going to a freemium model.

Interesting. Does this apply to on line as well?

Given the substantial chance that fans won’t be allowed into stadia, a full watch-at-home package would seem valuable.

On line how? Like can you watch on line if you have the regular satellite package, or does it apply to the streaming only service, or something else? My email says I can stream using their app. It says nothing about the stream-only service which I don't have. The website lacks info on this new development (their website has been terrible ever since AT&T took over) and nobody else seems to have the details yet.

This article I just found says we don't even know if every existing customer qualifies. You would expect a press release for something like this, but ????

Found some discussion on a Buffalo Bills fans forum and it seems clear now that not every customer got this email. It might be much less universal than my reading of the email. People who currently pay for Sunday Ticket, in particular, seem not to have gotten this email. I had it for years but dropped it about 2 years ago. So I guess it was targeted. Email says, "There’s nothing you need to do, keep being a loyal DIRECTV customer and enjoy NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX on us for the 2020 season." There is no language, even in the fine print, of the sort that indicates the offer is only for the intended recipient, etc.

I need an explainer, and cannot find a good one. Commanders? Is it a military thing? Presidential (Commander in Chief, and basically then still military)? I've seen them say it relates to the nation's capital, but frankly I find the idea that the government commands us offensive. If it is military, honor the grunts, not the officers. This was their best option? And what are the 3 stars? This cries out for an explainer graphic.

I have seen it explained as honoring the different military branches that operate in and around the city. Not sure why Commanders specifically.

One issue for the team is that Commanders has an extra syllable over Redskins, so the team's long time fight song doesn't work.

An issue with the above soccer style logo is that they apparently got the years of the titles wrong - the logo shows the year the Championship Game was won and not the actual season.
