Nintendo Switch

Just finished Ori and the Blind Forest (the second Ori game just came out) and just started playing Gris - dear lord this game is absolutely stunning! it's short and not very difficult, but it's very relaxing and zen - plus it's only $8.50 until 4/19 (I think). Here's the trailer:

I’ve been playing Assassin’s creed black flag. Never played an AC game before. They had a 2 game bundle on sale for $30. Just got my daughter animal crossing and she’s loving it. She’s 8 and it’s more reading than I’ve ever seen her do. Fuck school, this is how you really teach!

Animal Crossing has remarkable appeal across age groups.
I just severely overpaid about a week ago to get my D15 a Switch. They're sold out everywhere and we wanted to get her something to make up for the seemingly ever increasing levels of isolation, and apparently every family in the country had the same idea earlier than we did. I decided to get her 2 games to start and AC was one of her choices, plus Mario Kart, and afaik she's been spending most of her time on animal crossing.

If you look on the Nintendo Eshop they just put a ton of games on sale yesterday. good chance to build her collection on the cheap if she wants to mix it up. Also, I highly recommend the pro controller if you're going to play long hours on the system, it's ergonomically superior to any controller on the market (PS and Xbox included). It's also not marked up like the base system is these days, though it still runs $60, but you'll be saving her from carpel tunnel down the road.

adam adam Black Flag was my favorite Assassin's game overall. All aspects from the fighting to naval battles were all so much fun to play. I miss it, may have to play it again with a deal like that haha.

mgarbowski mgarbowski I will admit, I am 29YO and have played a vast amount of hours playing Animal Crossing along with numerous friends too. I can confirm, the age range for that game is crazy. When you said you got AC for your daughter I thought you were still responding to Adam and saying how she's spent a ton of time playing Assassin's Creed :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

My brother just started Odyssey and we were discussing this, he said his favorite is still Black Flag as well

I am glad of your reaction because I did that intentionally. I mean, at first I just tired of writing out Animal Crossing, then I noticed adam adam used AC to mean Assassins Creed and thought about not using the abbreviation, then I figured the confusion would be a diversion.

Can someone answer some basic Switch questions for me? Navigating through the Nintendo site to get basic info is needlessly tiresome.
  1. Can you add additional controllers to one Switch and multiple people play at once (like you could on Wii)?
  2. Is Switch Lite exactly like a Switch except handheld only? IE no external display?
  3. Can a Switch Lite link with regular Switch as a separate controller for purposes of multiplayer functions under my first question (if the answer to Q1 is yes)?

Golf Story is a lot of fun.

Link's Awakening is good but nothing compared to BOTW.

I started playing Mario + Rabbids Battle Kingdom as well but so far it's a back seat to the two above

To add controllers you just put the controller into the switch and it automatically pairs them. It's really easy, and depending on the game can have 4-8 controllers at the same time :)

2. I think so. Might even have some slightly inferior hardware, but no clue.

3. yep!

1. Yes. Some fun 4 player games are Mario Kart, Mario party, Mario tennis, smash bros.
2. I thought switch light can connect to TV. The issue is the controllers don't come off of it & I think it's not as powerful a processor.
3. You should be able to use it since 2 switches can be connected on a network to allow up to 8 players.

These answers are consistent with my observation that Nintendo does a poor job of communicating basic product info.

nah, it's all listed out right here very straight-forward. Getting to the page, not as straightforward.

No it's not all there. Can you answer the following basic question by reading that spec sheet?

When a Lite connects to a regular Switch, can you play on a shared external screen, or is the Switch still limited to its own screen? In other words, are there things you can do in multiplayer mode with a simple controller that you cannot do with a Switch Lite?

ETA: It is clear to me now that a Switch Lite cannot directly connect to a TV. And that a Switch Lite can connect to a regular Switch and play in handheld mode. But they do not say whether a SL can connect to a Switch and through that connect to a TV so the SL simply provides controller functions.

Only thing a spec sheet is going to do is list measurements and internal components. Nothing regarding how-tos or answers to questions. Best bet would be a manual, but I agree that Nintendo isn't great at answering questions or showing how-to in their official document.

My gf was freaking out that she couldn't figure out/find a guideline to get your account transferred from one system to another (She bought the limited edition AC switch). It was a really weird system of uploading save data, logging onto the new one, downloading save data, then having to sign into the Nintendo store on the new switch before ensuring the new switch was the #1/main for her account. She had to go through reddit and other forums to find some answers, nothing directly from Nintendo gave her that info. Even those answers were mostly "not sure if 100% true but this worked for my cousin's brother's neighbor's dog's walker..." type responses.
