I'm writing this at Orlando airport. As I'm getting off my flight I see a person wearing an NYCFC Mix Diskerud jersey. I say "Go City" and extend my hand. He says "Yeah, maybe next year." A simple interaction but shows out fandom reaches far beyond the five boroughs. (Although he was probably on the flight back to Newark).

This will be a thread where you meet fans of NYCFC around the world, or just see someone wearing NYCFC gear.

You must be Visiting The Boss in Tampa!

I bumped into a guy on the London Underground wearing a NYCFC cap a few months back. He was a Londoner living in NYC but back to visit family or something. I tried to have a quick conversation with him about it, purely in a "oh hey, I've never seen someone wearing NYCFC merch before" kind of way, but he either had somewhere to go very fast or just really didn't want to talk to me. About the only positive comment I got out of him was him saying NYCFC were "the best team in New York", which he repeated about three times. One of the most awkward 30 second long chats I've ever had.

Aside from when I was actually in New York, that's the only time when I've ever come across someone else wearing NYCFC-branded stuff.

I see NYCFC gear occasionally at the bars here in South Bend, IN. Probably Notre Dame people from NYC, but still cool having it repped out here.

I was staying at a hotel in Bonita Springs Florida earlier this year and the girl at the desk said she loved my NYCFC shirt. Stunned, I asked her if she is a fan and it turned out that she was a huge soccer fan and the team had stayed at the hotel during the preseason. She said that the players were so cool and friendly that she became a fan for life.

Update to my Florida trip. At Downtown Disney (now named Disney Springs), there's a soccer store. While I didn't go in, I saw NYCFC jerseys inside along with Seattle, LA and a bunch of Orlando gear.

I was in Cancun this past May and watching the Champions League final in a bar. I was wearing the US jersey and noticed someone wearing a NYCFC hat. I went up to him to see if it was someone on here. Turns out he was a Spaniard who followed Villa.

My guess is that he was in the garbage disposal business in New Jersey and was "relocated" abroad. And the NYCFC hat went along with the facial reconstruction work.

If that's the case then his talents are wasted because that would make him the only American alive able to pull off a convincing English accent ;)

How about a sports store in the Vegas airport selling our away jersey. I laughed at that.

My reference to the Vegas airport reminded me of a fun NYCFC memory, kind of on point. I was playing a World Series of Poker event in Vegas over the summer of our first season. It turned out that one of the days of the event was the same day as some very important soccer, first the Champions League final (Barca v. Juve) and then our game against Philly when we snapped our winless streak.

Of course, I chose to interrupt my poker focus by closely watching both of those games on my ipad during the tournament. I was also wearing an NYCFC t-shirt. Not surprisingly, like many WSOP events, I was surrounded by players from around the world, and at my table were several foreign footy fans. During the CL final, I was giving frequent updates, and at times had the others running around behind me to catch a replay.

Since I spent much of the day educating the guys about our fine new franchise, the camaraderie continued during the NYCFC game. I remember celebrating loudly after McNamara's long rocket goal, and then when Mullins (I believe) scored the winner, causing the others to join me for the replays and in the celebrations. That may have been the last and only time those folks watched NYCFC play, but for me it made for such a random, unique and fun way to experience the game from the desert.

In NYC you haven't seen even one only person to wear a NYCFC cap or a NYCFC jersey ?

I was rocking my STH gift NYCFC backpack throughout Hong Kong and Bangkok the last two weeks. Sadly did not have anyone approach me asking about the team.

But that didn't stop me from telling everyone I met about the team (I just left out the part where we dropped our home and away series 7-0)
