NYCFC Confirm Departure of PV. Nice Confirm Arrival of PV as Manager.

“The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, insisted that he had little choice but terminate Lopetegui’s contract as a matter of principle after the coach negotiated with Real Madrid behind their back. The sacking comes in response to the news, released on Tuesday afternoon, that Lopetegui had agreed to take over at Real Madrid when the World Cup ends.

“There are decisions that we are obliged to take based on an understanding of how you should behave and on ethics,” he said. He said that it was legitimate for Lopetegui to negotiate with Real Madrid but not for the federation to find out just five minutes before a formal announcement was made, days before the beginning of the tournament”

Orwellian double-speak by a guy who has no business running a 7-11, much less Spanish soccer.

What if he knowingly has Spain lose, helping himself get
1. a healthier squad and
2. a few more days/weeks to prep for/with Madrid??
But there's no serious motivation for him to do that instead of just resigning. If he wants to avoid stories that he abandoned the team he does himself no favors by staying and generating stories about how he couldn't get out of group stage. It's not a direct conflict, and sometimes you have to trust people to keep doing their jobs like Kovac did.
Plus, the same conflicts you identify would be there if he made the deal and it didn't leak which is what everyone thinks should have happened.

It's the Spanish FA asserting their authority because they can. Real Madrid and Barcelona do whatever they want in Spain.

How about the coach of a World Cup favorite negotiating his departure days before the World Cup, announcing his departure hours before the World Cup, leaving his federation no choice but to remove him minutes before the World Cup? So much to unpack with that situation.

So I thought I read that he negotiated an extension with Spain like a week ago and then a few days later signed with Madrid. And it only got out because the RM players knew.

Maybe PV isn’t such a prick after all. That is a whole other level of backdealing.

Could you imagine if PV signed an extension with CFG and then jumped a few days later to Nice? Complete fan meltdown.

My gut feeling is that this is all some powerplay between Real and the RSFF. Bear in mind that Lopetegui signed the contract while he was supposed to be leading a pre-Russia training camp. Contracts like these don't tend to get signed without hours of negotiation, so I can entirely believe that Real have had a delegation staying in the Spain team's Hotel secretly for several days and have been constantly whisking him off into private negotiations - possibly at times when he was supposed to be do other things, such as media interviews or team meals. What's more, after the contracts were signed I can entirely believe that Real might have done something incredibly forward such as sending a letter to the RSFF demanding that Lopetegui must be present at their training ground within 24 hours of Spain's exit from the tournament, or demanding that they have approval on all media appearances he makes or something.

This wouldn't give the Spanish FA that much credit. Real Madrid is in no position to demand anything. This is a pure machismo "Oh you can't quit, you're fired" move. It's so stupid on so many levels. Not only are you competitively losing a coach days before a tournament (who the players btw stated to the FA that they did not want fired), but you lose out on the multi-million dollar buyout payment.

I mean, you say that going "you can't quit, you're fired" is petty, but it's only petty depending on the circumstances. If I'm an employee and I file a legitimate grievance against my manager which is ignored, then I resign in protest and get told that, then yes - it's petty. If, on the other hand, I've been defrauding the company and hand in my notice when I realise that they're onto me, only to be brought into a disciplinary and dismissed part-way into my notice period, then it's not pettiness, it's good management. If the company in that scenario were to just shrug and let me get away with it then it would show they have no authority or backbone, and if it came to a civil action against me for my actions then it would noticeably count against the company if my lawyer were to show that the company had a chance to sack me and refused, because it sends out the message that they didn't care that much, or that possibly they had already privately accepted that I had beaten the system.

In this situation then yes, you could argue that the whole scenario has shown Barca and Real that the RSFF are a paper tiger even in spite of their action, but if Spain hadn't sacked Lopetegui then those clubs would have also learned a second lesson, that RSFF had given up any pretence at being able to control the two clubs and that they should consider it to be open season in using their power and influence to essentially browbeat the RSFF into doing whatever they wanted.

If I were a FA president of a major power like Spain, the only thing I care about on the eve of the tournament is putting my country in the best position to win a World Cup.

You can play the political game with Real Madrid after the Cup and after you take their millions of Euros.

Like typical Arsene Wenger, of course he has to make it difficult. You could not leave Next year, right?

Vieira has always said publicly that he intends in fulfilling out his contract and would not want to leave mid-season, but if he does get the offer, I wish him luck and he has to take it. I feel there is good chance he gets the offer.

Thomas Tuchel, I think he lands at PSG and sorry Christopher Jee , I can't support Bielsa.

I think as a fandom, we should start to coalesce around Arteta. I have a feeling CFG's philosophy of getting some young players some time here, will be applied for coaches as well in the right circumstances.

Well it sounds like one of my clubs might get Bielsa:

Apologies for the late reply Christopher Jee

So looks like Tuchel did land at PSG which I'm happy about and you got Bielsa. I'm happy with this also as long as he's not coaching top flight football :)

Interestingly enough, I think this original thread was Titled about WengerOut and Vieira ties? When the Nice story broke, I was actually in Nice hoping to spot a Balotelli sighting, but got this instead......

It is, though. So, who acted irrationally again?
it shouldn't. RM is not Spain and Perez burdened Lopetegui/Spain by offering him a contract right before the tournament starts. Couldn't Perez wait until after the world cup? no, it's pure arrogance. Further pushing the narrative that RM is above all and at all cost.

Spain tied 3-3 by an aging Ronaldo... Spain barely tied it thanks to Diego Costa and he normally doesnt play attacking possession. Spain honestly got lucky. I would not be surprised if Spain actually loses on Wednesday.

Imagine trying to contain all those egos in the locker room. Not gonna happen.

Again, I ask, who is the irrational party, here?

I think saying they absolutely could have waited is a bit short-sighted. What if they waited til after the World Cup and find out Lopetegui isn't interested? And at that point, their other potential targets have been snatched up elsewhere?

They weren't asking him to start figuring out RM's lineup, or scout opposing teams, or do anything else than sign on the line. To suggest that he couldn't manage Spain after doing so and wouldn't stay motivated (its the fucking World Cup), it a bit ridiculous.

I feel it's more about the fickle nature of the Barcelona and RM divide that is in Spain.

Well, I'll eat my hat, Spain is going through.

Pine box, baby. Pine box.

Banega to Nice?
