NYCFC Confirm Departure of PV. Nice Confirm Arrival of PV as Manager.

True, but there's also the chance that the coach can take a few months off of coaching and wait for the start of next preseason of the team. It's highly selfish from the MLS side of things, of course.

I don't think that's realistic. Patrick didn't know Nice was interested until a few weeks before he left. Why would he stop coaching before knowing Europe is interested? I don't think it's selfish. He left for a far bigger job in one of the top 5 leagues in the world. He would have been insane to turn that job down. We always knew he would be a short-term hire, and I think he should get a lot of credit for the way things turned around -- and have stayed turned around -- during and after his tenure. Patrick laid the foundation for how good we've been the last five seasons.

MLS calendar limits that, most euro teams want someone at the start of their pre season not in the middle of season. only teams struggling ( or in relegation trouble) tend to have openings when MLS is done. a manager could leave MLS at the end of the season to a struggling team and take a risk but its probably at a disadvantage and not worth it.
Yeah, that's just the reality of the MLS. NYCFC knew Vieira was going to use this job as a stepping stone, we know NYCFC comms never likes to talk about bad news. Hard to fault him personally for what is going on. If you are going to be upset, but it for the fact that this club consistency puts itself in hard places with no plan B.

who has done that though? you dont know 6 months ahead that a club wants you. The exception can be a national team.

Right - that's why I said it's selfish. and sorta unlikely, too (my corollary to myself)

yes its technically selfish, but its the nature of the beast. better league offers you to come in, you go if you feel its right for you. its on nycfc to not have plan B's or ways to convince them to stay. i do recall there were rumors ( twitter though so take as you will) that St Etienne was looking for him the year before and he said no. so nycfc should of known or even talk with him and have a plan if there is a chance a team comes calling for him in the following summer.

just like in any job, better job comes around you go ahead and take it, give two weeks notice and you on your way.

Also, the conflicting reports about Vieira have nothing on this.
Heard about that driving in to work yesterday. They even said it was likely she did die and was resuscitated leading to confusion since no family/friends were allowed to be there.
I think that’s one of the worst things about the pandemic. Even those not directly affected by COVID can’t have contact with loved ones in their final days.

Met my brother's sister-in-law's boyfriend on Saturday - bloke from Crystal Palace. (Are yanks aloud to say bloke?) (Or yanks?)

He couldn't rave enough about PV.
