Thing is, this isn't even exploiting our advantage in scouting resources—it's just pointing the scouts to leagues where they're likely to find good deals. If anything, you'd expect the smaller MLS clubs would be all over the no-transfer-fee Allsvenskan stars while we dug up unheralded Uruguayan kids or whatever.
I read the ASA article the same way. We're targeting leagues, not players, and jumping on opportunities when contracts expire.

On the one hand that doesn’t seem great to move off of a huge sports station that we were joined up with the Yankees on, but I’m inclined to think being a big fish in a smaller pond will work out better for us.
I really hope Bergat sees significant playing time, and not simply late minutes in games, because his goal scoring rate is pretty ridiculous.

At Molde and then Malmo, he was hitting 1g/4g & more recently 1g/3g over a 6 year period, so basically 1g/3.5g for his extended career. Over a 34 game MLS season, he could easily be a 10g scorer. And considering he's 6'1", and in the past we've had ample crosses that would have been great/dangerous if the team had any height in the middle (poor, poor Maxi), then he could/should be the recipient of a fair share of opportunities...... if he is actually on the field.
That's perhaps a good way to be a fan of this team. Unlike my Mets, say, where I have pretty much zero optimism and just a tiny bit of hope that our pitching will work this year. Still a huge fan though, which is actually my main point now that I've finally gotten around to it.
I'd love to see the following Christmas Tree formation so that we can get the most out of the players we have, and it seems that both Villa & Medina are perhaps more withdrawn second forwards than out-and-out strikers (how often did Villa drop into the midfield last year - rhetorical).

This would let Villa and Medina drop to pick up the ball and also make runs through that require the defense to adjust on marking. Both can also drift to the corners as needed, and pick up the ball at the top of the box for either shots or isolation to drive in. But the big beneficiary is Berget who should be is position to receive crosses from the outside backs bombing forward (I prefer Sweat on the left, but realize Mata will get his minutes, and in this formation, he's better covered when attacking) and also wily through balls from Villa, Medina, and Maxi who will draw a lot of attention from the Dmid and CBs when they dribble.
Really helps save Villa's legs, too, considering how had he works up top. All indications say Berget has a non-stop motor to take off some of that initial defensive responsibility Villa has had.
I think Villa can play the 4321 outside forward excellently, but if saving his legs is a consideration I think that a 442 does this better. Outside forwards in the 4321 have a lot of outside wing responsibility.
It’s going to be nuts the first time that PV puts in Berget, they go to 3 at the back and have 3-3-4 when chasing a goal at the end of games. Balls to the wall.
Were we really on WFAN? We were never broadcast on the radio waves. Just available online I think. Honestly, I could never find our matches when I tried. Now we have an actual station that anyone can tune to. Or more importantly, accidentaly stumble across.
This is actually a pretty interesting initiative on the radio station.
