NYCFC is officially irrelevant now that Villa left. Fewer games on nat’l tv, no real chatter about their schedule and “big games”, etc.
Total hypothesis, but I’d venture that the TV folk talked with the MLS folk during the schedule process and the lack of NYCFC matches on TV is due to what you said, Villa leaving, but also I expect that if the league knew of an pending Big signing theyd tell TV to add a few more in (which they didn’t do compared to past season’s numbers).

I think this was brought up earlier in a different thread- We hope to see more of him this season, this is pretty much his make-or-break season with us. Thanks for the write-up!
Thanks for reading. Definitely a very important season for Lewis and NYCFC. As I noted, you don't trade that much money to have someone rot on the bench. But Lewis is very much PV's player, not Dome's -- which doesn't mean he's not good or anything. I wonder how it'll all unfold after USMNT camp and preseason. Obviously, that January camp is essentially showcase to other teams for JLew.

Welcome! Nice write up. Enjoy all your articles and thank you for giving this team a presence in the papers.

It’s interesting that Hackworth was so open about his defensive liabilities and Dome even brought it up once last season if I recall correctly. But PV was so tight lipped about it when questioned why Lewis wasn’t getting more minutes.
Thanks for reading!

Hackworth is a very honest coach who's seen Jonathan for a few years now. I omitted this from the story but he actually consulted with his son Morgan, who plays at Akron, about Lewis before bringing him in on loan. Morgan and Jonathan played together for a season and Morgan signed off on it, really praising Lewis too.

I think you need a larger sample size to really dissect Lewis' defensive efforts. I think Hackworth saw that during that stretch of games and Dome sees it in training.

Regarding PV: he was super tight-lipped around the media when the camera was on. It's probably just how he was media trained throughout his career, but he explained things away from the camera. I think he was just waiting for the right time to play Lewis since it was a very win-now mentality, but not sure why he fell out of favor for the first few months last season. I don't think Medina is a winger in Dome's team, fwiw.

Love the attention you give the team and have posted links to your articles here in the past. Keep it up!
Thanks! Appreciate the Twitter engagement too!

Of course. As for this season, I hope to focus more on feature stories like I did last year. I think those resonate better than the day-by-day stuff since Glenn and others do it much better being they are around the team more often.

Thanks for the inside info!! Really interesting that Hackworth consulted his son. And I wish we had you around the forums a couple years ago. All we ever heard from PV was the same few sound bites he was quite really pleased about. (I think Lewis is a bargain for cap purposes. If you spread the $250k GAM the team used to trade up, he only cost around $80k vs the cap each of that last 3 seasons.).

Would you mind telling us what you think the general lockerroom’s feelings are towards Dome right now? They dropped a ton of points when he took over. These forums are split on if it was the transition’s fault, or Dome’s tactics. Have any players let you know how they feel?

Again, Great having you here!!!

Pretty certain that's quite a hefty question lmao.
I am still under the opinion that after the offseason we'll do a lot better. but what do I know, I've never gotten soccer predictions right aside from the world cup going to france lol.
