NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2019

So 1/4 of our season won’t be aired on live TV. Cool.

But seriously, can’t they put us on some other network so it’s live? I mean $1mm a game to host us and they don’t even have to air us on their exclusive network for us??? Some fucking partners. I’m not sure one can be both a yankee fan and a NYCFC anymore.

Anyone with local media experience? How much would it cost to simulcast a game on one of the 2nd tier local ota's?

My guess is that it would cost less than the loss of brand value we get from not being on live tv.

The investment by the Yankees was strictly a financial decision, not because they’re interested in being accommodating owners. They’re looking to increase the value of their equity for when the time comes to sell - too bad the lack of a stadium is depressing their stake. In the meantime, they’re nothing more than another NYC slumlord collecting rent from a tenant out of options.

Figure out the cost of plane tix to/from Tampa, hotel accommodation, and small per diem, and multiply that by the number of matches. That’ll give you the cost to have NYCFC_Dan NYCFC_Dan periscope the match for online viewing.

Haha flights are cheap. If I recall delta has a hub in both airports.

What brand value?

It’s more Kanye, Pusha, and Eminem vs. Tupac and Biggie, and that’s not the new generation.

Pusha?

Kanye I understand is a big deal. Guy had one good song 15 years ago. I still fuck with that song from time to time. Otherwise, he’s just another Fat Joe or that dude who did a song with 50 Cent.

Eminem is a legend, no doubt. Dudes movie is underrated.

Didn't they put most of our games like this on "YES2" last year? I seem to remember a few games on FIOS channel 501. So maybe that happens again this year. If my memory is good, they made those announcements closer to the respective gamedays.

I hope so. All I ask for is live broadcasts. If it’s YES2 that’s 100% cool. All the other local teams do the same thing when game times conflict. It’s the tape delay that pisses me off. But then why not say these matches will be broadcast on YES2 at their scheduled time in the release?

Because YES2 isn't a real channel. It's just overflow.

In 2019, offering a tape delay of our game is akin to a fuck you.

It’s an insult to our intelligence for them to ask us to be excited that 20% of our matches won’t be available live.

“Hey NYCFC fans, make sure to turn your phone off, stay off Twitter, avoid ESPN.com, and don’t watch any sports network with a scrolling score feed as we present to you NYCFC vs Minnesota United three hours after the match ended.”

Thanks NYCFC. I’ll just make sure to mow my lawn for the next 5 hours while I wait.

The problem with this is that the Time Warner half of the city doesn't even get YES2, so that's not even an option for a lot of folks.

I don’t get YES2 on my slingtv either. But if i can stream live through fox sports go, I’ll take it.

That's really weird, but there's not much more YES can do than put the game on the overflow channel and have it available to stream. I mean, if there's a Yankees game, what are they supposed to do? No, they're not selling their game to MSG or SNY. That's just not realistic.

Also, I saw someone above say that streaming may not work for some fans. I'd argue NYCFC fans are the best-positioned to deal with a game streaming online than any other sport's fans. Judging by my experience at games, it seems the NYCFC fanbase is mostly young, which would probably mean that the majority of fans are comfortable enough with computers to stream the game. And if you have a smart TV or a Roku, you can still watch it on your TV.

On the plus side, that leaves you plenty of time to revise your position on Kanye's body of work and its impact on hip hop and culture at large ;)
