NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2020

I think it's more that the show came off as unprofessional. Why ask the youth coach who the next first team signing is?

The way I read that question is, "who is the next first-team signing from the academy?" Which can also be answered as: Who is the next player we should have our attention on? Who's the best player currently in the academy with a chance to graduate into the first team? It's a completely fair question.

This is the kind of BS from our PR team that makes me think they really have no idea what they're doing. It is completely harmless to allow the academy coach to do an interview like this. You have one of the best academies in MLS, you're not revealing state secrets.

does he do this with other academy coaches ( i really dont know). especially when he says he likes to chat with those with limited press experience

i get the academy part disappointment when he said he was not allowed to talk about academy players. first team or team philosophy are not something to ask a U19 coach. thatsd david lee questions, but of course they wont entertain that

Asking the U19 coach how his team fits into the bigger organizational picture is totally a fair question. He also literally answered this question on Glenn Crooks On Frame podcast.

It's laughable to throw this off as a David Lee question because we can count on one hand how many independent interviews a NYCFC sporting director has done since 2014. This is a comms blackout strategy that has nothing to do with who is being asked questions.

So we just had an article on Deila in Newsday and a piece on Lee in the Post. Nice to see PR is finally allowing media some access to our new decision-makers. It took long enough.

Before you give the team too much credit, pretty sure these conference calls were apart of a league media event.

nope, article specifically said he didnt want to pigeonhole himself to a specific position
If he can’t get a striker and LB, gotta leave room to sign (2) GKs.

Heber and Castellanos are our only true strikers. Heber is frequently injured and Castellanos has international duty at times. We could use another striker.
We don't have any games during international break. So that does work in our favor. However I agree we need another true striker to give us tactical flexibility when Heber inevitably gets injured...

I feel ok with Isi playing as a 9.

We don’t know if Ronny will want his 9 to hold up play or run behind.

But your argument is a good one for a 9. Just don’t know that I would do it NOW. Would prefer to wait until the summer for cap reasons for us.

I have and continue to believe that a Heber clone is our most important need.
