NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2020

Congratulations to NYCFC. It's hard to do a 19-minute interview with the sporting director of a team and the entire video is fluff with zero information given, but they accomplished it.

Some of those questions ... holy crap. "You've gotten to interact with fans at some recent events. How has that been for you?"

Yes, of course we should expect no hard-hitting questions in an "interview" like this but even with that caveat, this is embarrassing.

To be fair it's a "state of the city". Basically a prompted speech about the club and himself. I don't think it was meant to be hard hitting. But yeah.. a waste of time from a fan perspective. Would have liked some questions about Medina....

And how he's going to be MVP and golden boot winner this year.

Right. I mean, you can actually ask about the team instead of this waste of time. There's a way to do softball questions while still giving fans even a small amount of information.

Deila's interview with Crooks and others has been posted...

Seems there have been a bunch of injuries though they are apparently minor. Match fitness for some key guys will definitely be an issue. Sounds like we're gonna have a mis mosh lineup and/or early subs on Thur. Johnson asking for fans to show up to RBA.

I think this might be the first time you’ve really gone negative on them and not defended their actions with a maybe/possibly type reading of the situation...... and I’m in awe. Welcome to the dark side of skepticism!

And thank you for watching it so I don’t have to waste my time on this PR schlock.

I do like to give the benefit of the doubt and not just be reactionary, but man this one was just so bad. I completely understand why they do things like this -- the poor guy asking the questions, I think based on the voice, was the head digital guy. He's just doing what he's told. I don't blame him. New Yorkers don't like being handled, and one of these days the team is going to understand they need to stop trying to handle their fans.

Has David Lee even had a press conference with the media yet? He was brought into this role two months ago. I think he held a conference call at some point? But no public press conference of any kind. Can you imagine any other team in any other sport being this opaque with their new general manager?

FC Cincinnati held a full press conference on today's news about their coach's alleged racism. I shudder to think how NYCFC would have handled it.

You paint it like it was done well. Everyone else I've seen talk about it is pissed about how Cincinnati is handling it

For the record, any reactionary comments are because the club has created a relationship based on conditioning. Distrust was formed per past actions and patterns.

As to Lee, it’d be pretty hard to go into a press conference to discuss the role of GM when, as K Kjbert said, he’s GM in name only.

I'm not saying they handled it well. But at least they handled it. At least they displayed at least a minimum of accountability, even if they completely spit the bit.

he did have that phone call for the interview with the athletic. As for press conference, there is no real demand for it, only the few thousand fans (combining ST and twitter and these forums). The knicks for example despite the terrible management still has massive following in nyc so they need to have their press conferences trying to explain the fuckups.

That's my point - the internet was complaining they were radio silent and didn't even say anything about it for a long time, so they didn't really handle it until they were forced.
