NYCFC Mount Rushmore

The Extra Time guys went with:
Villa, Maxi, Ring, Johnson

They also said Vieira was the top coach and best team was last year, 2019. Vieira finished ahead of Torrent because they credited him with turning the club around, his general presence, and for being a trailblazer for foreign coaches coming to MLS in the last 4 years, including Torrent.

Can't disagree with any of that.

I would have possibly wanted Jack in there ahead of Sean Johnson but I get the decision.

Sorry to bring up the enemy but as someone who's followed MLS to some degree since the beginning , kind of shocking No Metrostars made the list for Jersey just Pink Cows.

the fuck? Davies was in for like one or two seasons. Sometimes I wonder what the hell these pundits are smoking. Giovinco, Rimando, would be way better options here, if not Wondolowski, even.
Probably various reasons for each:

Marco Etchevary was the most dominant playmaker in the league propelling DC to multiple titles.

Donovan was the face of US soccer and part of multiple championship teams.

Beckham brought legitimacy to the league and catapulted the DP rule. Without him, teams wouldn’t have the same flexibility to sign marquee players and world players probably wouldn’t give MLS a look.

Davies is likely the potential factor. In MLS, he was an exciting talent that regularly showed brilliance on a bed team. He’s easily kept to being a regular starter on one of the biggest teams in the world. His ascent lends credibility to the league developing players.

Oh, beckham and donovan I'm not complaining about. I just don't get why Etchevary and Davies are in there. I understand what you said but I think there are better picks than Davies. Etchevary might have a place, but not Davies.

DC doesn’t win all those titles without Etch. He was amazing to watch and could take over games.

Davies didn’t need to sit around MLS any longer to show his worth - not when Bayern wanted him and made him a regular starter. Who else from MLS has gone on to star on a top 5 team in the world? A team that can land nearly any player they want? There probably are other players in MLS that are deserving, but being a big fish in a small pond isn’t all that impressive for Rimando since the US is known for sending their best GKs to Europe, and Gio, while fun to watch in MLS, couldn’t cut it in Europe. Wondo is an overachiever in a small pond. Never made it to Europe and never a reliable factor on the US team - flubbed the most brilliant flick/setup Dempsey could have ever served him. I’m ok with picking a kid who’s made it to the top of the world’s elite clubs - that’s a pretty good story for aspiring players to look at.

Villa, Taty, Maxi, Sean

Is probably what I'd say nowadays.

Though it's tough because I was really considering putting Amagat in there

No argument. I’ve been vibing with the love I’ve been seeing on the forum for Callens lately. Along with his solid D I love what he adds to the attack and think he maybe the best penalty kick taker ever.

Tough to leave Callens out. Tough to leave Sean out. I think they are fighting for spot #4.

For me Villa, Taty, and Maxi are in. Fourth spot is hard between Sean, and Callens , I love Jack but he wasn't here long enough...

I’m curious how much this is recency bias with the addition of Callens. I still think Maxi Taty David Sean. I think Ring has a place in the running as well.

Can I make an argument for Vieira? The club has been a disaster off the field since year one. I don’t even want to know what we look like if year 2 didn’t have such a turnaround.
