NYCFC move 6/3 match vs Union to 3 PM. They then change it back to 1 PM

instead of 1 PM. So instead of a 1 PM kickoff leading into a 2:45 PM UCL Kickoff, pick which match you want to attend or watch.

So stupid. I'm sure there is a good reason for it, but considering our casual fan base, they could have made a terrific day out of a 12:30 PM kickoff and a UCL Final watch party at the stadium. Throw it up on the big board, keep the food and bars open a bit and have a terrific day for the fans. Missed opportunity.

meh...euro club team i follow was not even in it this year

wasnt this an issue as well previous years? or was it an away game ? I could of sworn it happened

This is infuriating. I just planned an entire weekend around that game, and now it's all screwed up because of the time change. Once you start the season, let alone get within a month, changes like this should not happen.

Edit: Also, are they going to tell us about this somehow? Maybe I've missed something, but I haven't seen anything from the club about the time change.

They changed it on the web already

If this happened in Europe then it would go without saying that the change had been forced on the club by broadcasters, who ultimately have the right to dictate which order games kick off in (and therefore what kick-off time they have.

Is that definitely not the case here? Genuinely curious, I have no idea about US TV/sports scheduling but my immediate impulse response to the OP was to think "the TV company demanded it".

That is also the best first guess in any similar situation in the US. When game times are moved it's for TV. That's also usually why game times are set in the first place. That's why I checked what network is showing the NYCFC game (YES) and then when the Yankee game that day is. Since there is still a conflict it doesn't seem to be for TV.

The Yankees are also playing at home the following Tuesday. Which means that NYC cannot play later than Saturday afternoon based on prior experience. So they could not move the game to Saturday night. Still no idea why they moved it 2 hours later into the afternoon.

Wait, NYCFC just changed their time to conflict with the biggest soccer game of the year?

I emailed my rep. I'm sure it's YES Network but it can't hurt to bring it to their attention

Ugh, I was going to be in the city for this. I planned to fly in Friday and fly out Saturday night. This definitely messes up my plans for that game. I'm pretty sure my flight out was 7 pm.

I think I'm one of the few here that actually enjoy this. Yeah, kinda sucks about missing the Champions League final, but this means either an extra two hours of sleep, or drinking for me.

Though I definitely understand how this can mess up other people's plans.

I agree that the timing is better, despite the CL. It is annoying to change it so late though, especially as it seems they kind of just snuck in the change so far with no explanation.

Change in time probably has more to do with broadcasting than anything else... and broadcasting is where the $$$ is.

I'd be curious to know the national vs international numbers for NYCFC viewership. It wouldn't surprise me if international viewership was higher - and I would doubt that many of those viewers, for whom NYCFC is probably at best a "2nd" team, would choose our game over the CL.

But by the same token, that viewership is spread over a bunch of smaller broadcasters, none of whom have the kind of leverage that YES does.

but who is broadcasting ? its on delay on YES and only way to watch it live is fox sports go

Maybe changed the time to accommodate Fox. YES isn't broadcasting live? That would have made more sense to me as they could have moved the game to broadcast live
