NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Jefferson Mena flashbacks too

the player that was so shitty, Vieira subbed him 23 minutes into a game (which I think was his last game for us, unless he got thrown into a later game as an emergency sub)

It does give perspective to think back a year, two years, or three years and how different of a team we were. I remember that game too, but after looking back, there was a bunch of stuff I didn't remember. Who came in for Mena? Not Chanot (he didn't arrive until July 2016; Mena's 23' sub was back in March 2016). It was Diego Martinez, the guy who later got fined for swearing at a ball kid.

Also, Mena was in the 18 as a sub after that, but did have a bunch more starts in 2016. He even started alongside Brilliant in our first RB derby win on 7/3. Chanot didn't start consistently until Oct 2016

While we desperately need a Maxi understudy, we are too busy looking for a 6th or 7th center back. Brilliant!

While agree with your premise of needing a Maxi understudy (the most glaring weakness on this squad currently), I wouldn’t say the existence of certain rumors about some positions and absence of rumors targeting other positions means that that is the direction the club is taking in terms of prioritization.

Some rumors about Diego Lainez. Not sure if us, but in the realm of 15mil total.

i kept reading in spanish articles that he rejected an MLS offer it but never mentioned the team.

EDIT: it would honestly shock me if its that high, the kid did not even play a full season in first division in America, he has skill but not $15M level, at least not yet. it would be purely a marketing move.

Quote from Demba Ba who had intentions of coming to MLS before deciding to sign for a Turkish club again.
Before heading to Istanbul, Ba did consider MLS. But given America's conflict with racial injustice and its overall handling of the pandemic, he quickly changed his mind.
"When I see how the country is going right now, very difficult times -- for the whole world really -- but when you see what is happening in America, I ask, 'Do I want to go there?' Because when I go, I obviously go with my whole family," Ba said. "So I would have to educate my kids in a country that is going through a big crisis, and inequality of race? I don't really know."

Wow. That being said I think overall quality of life that he and his family would experience in America is better than than of Turkey.
It’s all a matter of perspective. Turkey is predominantly Muslim. The state claims 99.98% of residents as such. So it’s not odd for Ba, a devout Muslim, to claim that he enjoys life in Turkey. Here’s the article - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cb...ead-of-istanbul-basaksehirs-clash-vs-psg/amp/

A simple google on Turkey’s religious persecution would return results that make you question his view point. You could easily apply his statement on America’s inequality problem to Turkey as well.

Interesting, so he'd possibly end up joining us or the Spanish CFG team in June/July transfer window, if he's playing in Uruguay until May? Unless I read that wrong/ I guess we also need to keep in mind the unknown start date to the 2021 season with COVID and everything, it could get pushed back. Interesting to see how this plays out.

yes, so he will play with nacional until end of season ( late january i think) then he will go to torque ( CFG team) until the summer window. soooo i do want to believe he goes to spain ( Girona) and not us. unless of course CFG wants to fuck with us again and give us a player mid season

I did not put much credence in the article saying he would go to torque until the summer window. To be fair, I'm relying on machine translation but that read as speculation to me, and maybe because the author forgot MLS is on a reverse schedule. It just makes no sense to put him in Torque as a placeholder if he's coming to NYC. That could make sense if he goes elsewhere. So I'm assuming he either comes to NYC in the winter window, but if he goes to Torque then he would not come to NY midsummer.

yes in the end we will have to wait and see what happens when the current season ends in Uruguay, which im reading now ends in mid February.

Isn’t that exactly what they did with Villa and Melbourne City before our first season started though?

Yes but it was only to get him some games since he hadn't played since the previous May and would have sat for 10 months otherwise. He returned to play with us for the start of that first preseason.

I just accidentally caught the David Lee interview from this week’s YES Network playoffs preview. Confirmed two DPs for next season. Do we have confirmation on who the second is? Is it Maxi or is it Medina coming off the DP books
