I don’t think it’s even that. I think it’s a handful of players that are friends that we’re looking out for each other. Would you want to come up against your friend in a competition where you have to play 20 matches and losing just 1 means you may not progress as far?

i dont know how the fifa online work anymore ( my fifa days are like over 10 years ago) but I figure if your pro you will be in group of other Pro's so its all fair game even if its your buddy. unless its the nycfc player going against nycfc player then there i can see issue.

i don't know about you guys, but even if i were a pro and going up against my buddies, i would love it. the chance to trash talk my buddies would be welcomed and it's always fun to compete against your buds. yea you're a pro and you're trying to win. But testing your skill at all times no matter who it is, is part of being a pro.

I think the point of these guys being pro is to make money, and that’s it. They probably look at it as why risk dropping in the rankings to somebody they have a 50/50 shot against when they have a 98% chance of beating joe blow. Rack up a number of losses, even to top ranked players and their marketability goes down as do their standings. Probably have more of a chance to make cash money via the marketing/endorsements than straight winnings, but why jeopardize either of you can game the system for between tournament matches.

If CFG treats him like Nasri, he’s gone after the suspension is over.

Understood. Just not very sportsmanlike. If I were cfg I'd fire him.

I know that pro FIFA players have training partners they regularly play against, the same as pro tennis players have coaches and tend to work with one or two other locally-based pros to play competitively against each other. All the same, I suspect there's only so much you can learn from playing the same guy over and over. Playing people with a totally different play-style to what you are used to is an important part of adapting and improving.

That said, if it was genuinely to manipulate the ranking figures, it is definitely a bit cynical and somewhat under-the-table.
I feel worse for the employee of CFG that has to take time out of his life to fire him

I mean, CFG have a full-time eSports manager who organises all of their eSports players, so it's not like some bloke behind a desk is being seconded out of his role to deal with it...

Interesting article with background on Chris Holly's suspension. In sum, there's a guy named Nick Bartels who's something of a rising FIFA star and content creator, but who isn't part of the inner circle of pro players with team endorsements like Holly. He was 1 win from earning a Top 100 ranking. He was winning that game 1-0 at 90+1 when he and his opponent were disconnected, giving them both a loss. Why the game gives players a loss when the tech fails I don't know. There is also rumor of cheat codes that allow players who are losing to force a disconnect and give their opponent a loss also, and sometimes avoid the loss themselves.

So Bartels investigated and someone leaked to him some chats from players in this thing called the Dodging Discord. These were the elite top players who were conspiring never to play each other so as not to give each other losses during the Weekend Circuit. And I guess the eSports league competitive pros resent the content creators who can make more money off their streams and Youtube videos than the players get for winning tournaments. Bartels is apparently famous for earning all sorts in in-game FIFA stuff and power boosts without spending cash to do so. The chats made it clear that the Dodging folks were colluding and, while not dispositive, allowed Bartels to create a video credibly accusing them of manipulating things to get him disconnected and even more credibly show they collude to avoid playing each other to boost their records against outsiders like Bartels. Bartels apparently showed that one weekend there were 75 players on the circuit with 30-0 records and ask how it was that none of them ever played each other.
This forced EA to investigate and the result was they suspended Holly and one other guy. It looks like Holly was singled out as the reigning champ as an example, but lots of people think that plenty more punishments need to be handed out. Bartels says the entire eMLS is in the Dodging Discord.

Just another (sort of) soccer related clown show, because why should eFIFA be any less filled with pettiness and corruption that regular FIFA?.

Appreciate then synopsis. That’s basically what I figured they were doing. Glad he outed all of them.

Just proved my point that e Sports are fucking dumb.
If it can be proven that these players can use in-game codes to affect the game, ala cheating, then they should have a lifetime ban from the sport. Let them go find a real job.

I can't help but think about boxing where anyone can fight or not fight anyone and that's seen as fine. Kind of feels like if people are winning competitions or holding their rank without playing higher ranked players, the scoring structure of the game is wrong. They aren't incentivizing the right things.

The forced loss during the tie game is 100% bullshit tho.
